GPS Trak Files
#1
I have been looking at some GPS postings, and all the talk is about the GPS units and nothing about sharing files to see where other riders spend their time? I would like to see, by way of the track files, where people ride their machines? If you all have them posted somewhere, please let me know. If not posted anywhere, please post some and let me know where you post them.
PS. I will post this message in the other groups.

what kind of gps do you have, and what are you saving the information in that might make it possible to share. i have been using a program called ozi explorer for years. im interested in this project.

I have a Magellan SportTrak and I am just trying to build a map, for myself, just to see where everyone rides. I can not intrude on anyones spots because of where I live. I am just interested in seeing the different places

Firefighter,
I've got a Garmin Legend and use Oziexplorer as well. I've created some custom Garmin NS trail maps based on the Provincial topo maps, mostly of the Halifax area and Strait area.
I use a freeware program called GPSMapEdit that allows me to create custom Garmin maps for my GPS and MapSource. GPSMapEdit is an awesome tool for Garmin users. You can overlay files from different sources such as Garmin/Magellan/Allan/Holux data, Mapsource maps, and Oziexplorer maps to create custom maps. Unfortunately, at this point, you can only create custom Garmin maps.
Another great freeware program out there is GartraxGartrax will convert different formats of GPS files (eg. Garmin tracks to Magellan tracks). It will come in handy if you want to view different formats of track data.
A couple of sites you might find interesting:
Trackshare - This newer site has some tracks, mostly western Canada. In time should have some stuff if once people start posting.
NS Topography - These guys posts some Garmin tracks from their hiking trips in NS.
Geocaching.com - "Caches" hidden all over the world for people to find using their GPS.
