'02 650 Stutters at speed....?
#1
I've got a problem with my '02 650. When I get up to speed or mash the throttle fast it stutters and I hear a chatter coming from the air box area (like when you have it running without the airbox cover). It starts and idles great... it will cruise at around 35-40 with no problems if I let it take it's time to get there. Now, when it starts to stutter I found if I give it a little choke action.. it goes away.
History::: I had to have some work done at the dealer last fall for the 2-4 selector motor going out. While it was there, they found that I had silt in the gas and that my carb was packed with it. I had them clean it and add an in-line filter to it to make sure it was not going to happen again. I have ridden it about 3 times since this work. Do you think they may have missed somthing when they were adjusting it?? Since it comes around with the choke, do you think it may be running lean??
Any help would be great, I don't want to have to take it to the dealer again.

Could be clogged main jets, too. I'd take them out and clean them again. It could also be starving for fuel because the fuel filter is a little restrictive. Maybe they accidently bumped the floats, and the fuel level is a little low in the bowl. Good luck getting it fixed

Just a thought here. Some 02's and early 03's had bad cams. They would wear down and show a power loss. If all else fails you may want to pull a cover and look at your lobes. A dealer tech told me of one he got in and replaced the cams (Kawai paid) and they wore down again. The next set of cams were much darker in color and have been in a long time now.
Your chatter if mechicanical sounds like rocker noise.
