Mudlite Wear on Prairie
#1
I know this has probably been posted somewhere, but it's late and I'm being lazy right now How many of you Prairie owners can tell me about your personal experience with the tread-life of mudlites on the v-twin beast? These sound like the tires for me as I will be buying a Prairie sometime this summer or early fall, but I'm worried about the softer rubber wearing quicker than other mud tires. I was considering Gators, but want to keep some sportiness. Any help?

I have had the mudlites on my prairie for about a year now and the rears are holding up pretty good, probably 3/4 tread left, but the fronts were wore out in about 3 months. I ride on the road a good bit to get to the trails, so if you do the same they will wear out pretty quick. They perform pretty good in the mud, ride fairly smooth, and I didn't lose any performance with these compared to the stockers. I also have a set of 589's and they are extremely durable, I have had them for about 2 years and they still look brand new, probably have 1500 miles on them with just as much road riding as the mudlites. If I can ever figure out how to get my pics posted I will put some pics of both sets on my page.

Redgoblin,
Funny you should ask...just last weekend, I sold my used 25" mudlites and replaced them with 25" bearclaws b/c of the excessive wear on my mudlites. I put 1,050 miles on these mudlites since I installed them 1 year ago and the rear tires were down to about 50% tread life remaining and the front tires were down to about 65% tread life remaining. Overall, I was happy with their light weight and ability to handle some mud and most types of trail riding well. The only drawback for me was the excessive wear...however, I did ride on the pavement occasionally and I also did lots of timed acceleration runs on pavement to test out different motor/transmission mods.
One thing to consider is that the 25" mudlites have much smaller lugs on the tires and are much lighter in weight than the 26" and taller mudlites. So if you bought 26 or 27" mudlites, they would probably last you longer due to the taller lug size...but you might also notice a drop in power/acceleration due to the heavier weight of these 26 or 27" mudlites as compared to the lighter 25" mudlites. Just some food for thought.

I think your tires may be defective. White smoke seems to come off them while ridding. My Mudlites don't do that for some reason. That may explain your premature tire wear

That really makes me want a P700, blackbear!!! That thing looks awesome. Can't imagine having enough power to white smoke mud tires on pavement. Don't think I could get the ole Eiger to do it!. Don't know how long those mudlites are gonna last under those conditions, though.

With only 500 miles on mine I'm not happy with the wear. I don't ride much pavement, maybe a few short runs on my street. I like all the other qualities of the tire though. Will be trying a different tire when these wear to the point of replacement.HTH

Can someone tell me the new lug height? I'll measure mine and find out, I have about 300 miles on mine, they don't look worn yet and I ride hard, gravel, mud, sand, a few miles on pavement. I love them so far!
