Front drive shaft trashed
I went on a ride this past weekend and no sooner got off the trailer and hit the creek and I exploded the bearing cage on one of my front drive shafts. I went down a pretty steep hill, into some water, it turned out to be about 18" of mud under 4" of water, and buried my front end, shifted into 4-wheel drive, and started backing out when I hear a load "POP" and that was it. All she wrote.
Guess my question is what do I do now, besides replacing the shafts with Gorilla, I cant afford that? Can you rebuild the existing OEM setup? I just damaged the cage and the bearing. The shaft and the end housing look fine. I wish I could pony up the $700+ for Gorillas or the Outlaws, but I just cant right now, so I need to find out my options otherwise.
Thanks,

Sorry, I guess the axel shaft that drves the tires. I blew the lower cage and bearing apart, pulled it up out of the mud, and pulled the whole assembly. I had to cut one of the boots off, it was damaged already from the bearing coming apart, and removed teh clamp ring from the other end and pulled out the keeper ring and pulled the whole assembly out.

Gotcha, you busted a CV joint, it happens to all of us at one point. Its going to happen again to you to, you know why? You have a lift kit with 28" tires. Remove the lift kit and you will be fine. Or you can run Gorilla axles, they are much stronger and much more expensive.
I think running the light 589's is what saved you up until this point. If you had 28" outlaws or vamps on that quad with your lift you would of busted a CV in a matter of days or hours.
I would try and get the CV joint replaced, if possible. I know alot of the quads nowadays you can't remove the CV joints so you need to replace the entire axle shaft. You could probably ship it to Gorilla and they can fix it and maybe improve it. Once that is done remove the lift kit.

I just set them under it when I was changing them out, before I put the lift on it and it just looked way to tight and I am a pretty good sized guy and that works aginst me in that aspect. I just talked to the guys at Gorilla and i guess that is probably the route i am going to have to go if I want to keep my lift.
