Belt Warranty
#1
I have a Prairie 700, bought it about 1-2 months ago, has about 100 miles on it. I took it out to the sand dunes and I was out there about 2 hours and the belt warning light came on. No power just an obnoxious clanking sound. My question, is the belt covered under the manufacturers warranty in the first six months and if not how hard is it to adjust the belt myself. Thanks for the help and will keep everyone posted on the problem.

Stakk thanks for the reply, I took it in today and they said that generally belts are not covered, however being that the bike only has 14 hours on it they are going to try and call Kawasaki and see if they will cover the bike. They called me and asked what I was doing and I told them going up a hill at the sand dunes and what gear and they said they would call me tomorrow, so will keep you posted and let you know, Thanks again

If they try to give you crap, remind them of what THEY state in the manual about the 100 hr check...... and stand firm....They know that the factory sets the belt deflection too loose from the factory and this is no excuse....14 hrs should be covered PERIOD! they claim that the belt need's to be checked/adjusted every 100 hrs........14 hrs is a long way from that......the bike was simply sent from the factory with too loose of of belt deflection that is why it did this so soon and they know this even if they don't want to admit it......they should be responsible for fixing it, not you, if it would have happened closer to the 100 hr mark it would be on you, but I have seen this before....STAND UP TO THEM if they try and make an excuse, big business is this way........

Stakk, here is what the dealer said, they called the Kawasaki Service department and they told them that when they removed the belt that it had a 3 inch burn mark shaped like an hour glass in the belt, Kawasaki said that they would not replace the belt under warranty becuase it was something that I did, the local dealership said that they have never seen this happen on a belt before. Anyway to make a long story short the Kawasaki Techs are calling me tomorrow and I am going to have a talk with them. Before the belt went out I was in 2wd Low going up a very slight hill about 20ft from top to bottom over about 50 yards, so very slight. But anyway thanks for the advice and will keep you posted.
