Default BAD BELT ON 04 PRAIRIE

hello to all. Im new to this forum. I just wanted to tell everybody the problem i just had on my p700. It had 31 hr 326 miles when my belt started slipping. It has never been in deep mud or water so i did not know why it was slipping. I took it back to the dealer and had them fix it (still under warranty) they told me the belt was shot and the reason was ruff edges on the drive gears. My dealer put all new parts on my p700. They had my bike for5 days . I was told by the dealer that this was the 3rd one they had fix since they started selling the p650 and p700. All 3 were on p700. I took it out on wednesday 6-30-04 and rode about 45 miles with no problems at all. Has anybody else had this problem?

Haven't had the problem, but I use 3-4 belts per year. Call Rick Ridder Raceing, get yourself a Dalton P/PL spring for the secondary clutch. 618 644 3211.

Do a search and find Nyroc's, kawasaki page, (a link to it is on the bottom of all his posts) it has all the information about changeing springs and the spec for belt deflection.

Keep the belts and clutches clean and adjusted and you won't have any problems.

the reason was ruff edges on the drive gears?????????????

Welcome to the forum.

We had 2 -'03 650s, and when they were brand new, they were out of adjustment. (not a lot, but they weren't where they were supposed to be) Get the EPI black spring, that helps the belts last longer also. Hubby doesn't trust anyones work - buy a service manual and adjust them yourself, you'll know it was done, and done correctly. Nyroc has a wealth of info on the Prairies. (Mrs. Q)

My '03 was terribly loose from the factory. Since I adjusted I have checked it three times in 200 miles, and ridden it very hard, it's still tight!

once you get used to adjusting your belt it will be common place.
The Dalton Purple secondary works great.
The Dalton Blue primary works great.

I ran a 360 belt on my p650 all last year with good results.
Over 500miles and 20 atvpulls

Just make sure you start out on the low side of the deflection.Mine was way over (34mm) at 500 miles.I also had the 1.4 mm shim from the factory.I got a new belt and some of the other shims....6,.8.1.0.I used the 1.0 for starters with the new belt and it was right at 22mm deflection.500 miles on that one with no issues so far.You will notice with them tighter they wheelie much easier......at leats mine does.Nyrocs site has all you need to know to do this.

Thanks for all the info.
Shotgun the dealer was not sure what caused the ruff edges on the drive gear. They are going to let me know today

shotgun the dealer told me today the reason for the ruff edges could be any thing from bad machine work to a rock that could have gottin in.I was told there was nothing in mine at all.
