Gary made an excellent point, surveillance cameras are commonplace at stores, car washes, even intersections. I would definitely look around. Your neighbors may have something as well.
I remember when I was younger, a lot younger, I heard this guy braggin' about stealing a three-wheeler AND the Doberman assigned to protect it. It appears that some thieves just can't be stopped.
I think RescueDiver is referring to the innumerable frivolous lawsuits pending against property owners across the country. Here in Louisiana, I can think of a case where a boy was killed in a go-cart accident on some private property and the owner was sued into bankruptcy.
There needs to be some way that atvs and other vehicles can be tracked in these situations. GPS tags or something.

I am not familiar with Texas law. If that is still law, more power to your state But, the question I ask, has it really deterred theft? Statistics show a home owner with a gun usually has it used against him, or shoots the wrong person, ie. family member or neighbor. But, just remember, it's easier to say you will pull the trigger. But, when the time comes, it's not that easy Be safe and enjoy your next ride.
Slinger, you can look into the Lo-Jack security system for vehicles. If law enforcement agencies in your area have the equipment installed on their patrol vehicles. They can actually home in on a stolen vehicle, if they have the system on the vehicle. We use it around here in the Central Valley, Chp, and all the local agencies have them on majority of their patrol vehicles. I know the few times we used it, they worked. But, it does have draw backs.

Bigone, Like everything else, it is an electronic device. On a quad, it's hard to truly hide, unlike a car or truck. If the law enforcement in your area or the area you are traveling to, does not have the system in their vehicles, then they can not effectively use the system to track it down. In our county, almost all the agencies have it. But then again, I think we lead the state and probably are in the top 10 in the nation on stolen vehiclesUn like On-Star, who has the tracking ability to tell us where you pretty much are. Been sent looking for a couple vehicles and the system worked good. The occupants accidentally set it off and couldn't figure out why I stopped them. But, after explaining things to them, they were extremely happy it worked. And this was in the middle of no where USA Satellites are wonderful aren't they

My statistics can beat up your statistics...
According to the U.S. Department of Justice statistics, firearm related crime has plummeted by about two-thirds from 1993 thru 2002 in this country. Yet there are many more guns owned by citizens now than there was in 1993.
More armed citizens = less gun crime. Crime prevention by armed citizens goes totally unreported in this country.
Corollary: See Australia and England: Unarmed citizens = much more gun crime. Look it up.
As for family members shooting each other by mistake, etc., I have never seen proof that it is common. Just unsupported claims that it happens all the time. No proof, stats, just mouth flapping. Neither I or my friends have yet to actually know someone that it has happened to.
RescueDiver, no offense. I actually agree with most of what you have said...just had to try to refute that one statement. I appreciate what you do for the citizens.
PaulV: There is no more raging helpless feeling than to come out and see your stuff gone. Don't shoot anybody over it if the occasion arises though, since your lawyer will cost a lot more than $5700, plus you'll be locked up no matter what. A few knowledge bumps about the head and shoulders of the thief would make you feel a lot better, I know.

LOL
We both probably have strong beliefs in gun control and statistics. Everything aside, death to anyone by mistake, is one to many. Once that trigger is pulled, you cannot take that bullet a back. Ride Safe
