Default Wheel Spacer Help

Since I have only been riding quads for the last few years, I have a question about wheel spacers.

What are wheel spacers used for other than larger tires? I understand that it make the tires wider apart, but what are the benefits. Thanks for the help.

Howdy fellow Texan!

As I understand it, wheel spacers can useful for utility quads that install lift kits...the lift kits raise the quad's center of gravity and sometimes make the quad feel tippy/unstable in offcamber situations...adding wheel spacers will spread out the wheels and make the quad more stable in this situation.

Also, MXer's and TT racers sometimes add wheel spacers to spread out the front tires so that they can handle turns better. Wheel spacers are usually not always a good idea for XC racers b/c the wider the tires are, the harder it may be to squeeze between the trees on tight wooded trails.

Happy trails...

i wouldn't recommend them, but for a utility it may be alright.I had a set front and rear on my lakota and the front makes a horrible bump steer and the rear you couldn't do any jumping or it would snap the axle. But like i said it may work well for utilities that have lift kits and stuff.

I don't think its going to be much different than having an offset aftermarket rim

at national events you're allowed 50 in wide front and rear so some racing it's better wider tt oval mx all for turning cornors and sliding. it definitly works.

Thanks for the information. Since I have a 700prairie with a 2" lift and 26" ITP 589 tires on vision aluminum rims, do you think it would benefit me or hinder me? I am not even sure what I would be trying to accomplish with them. One guy that I rode with a few weeks ago had an older yamaha 350 4x4 and he had them on his. He said that they helped him go through ruts by grabing the outside of the ruts with the tires. I am not sure if that is good or not.

700Vtwinman,

I think the P650/P700 is one of the most stable utility quads around (probably b/c it has SRA and a lower center of gravity than other quads in its class)...I personally don't see the need for wheel spacers for a P650/P700 unless you want them for the purpose of making your wheels wider apart so they won't fall into the same ruts as other quads of similar size.

I have heard (but don't know this for a fact) that the Yam. Grizzly can be a bit on the top-heavy/tipsy side and wheel spacers may be a good idea for that quad (especially if it has a lift kit). Just my 2 cents.

Happy trails...

MikeyBoyesq,

I think you are probably right. I don't see the spacers helping the kawa 650/700 for stability since it is already very stable. I guess the only advantage would be to not fall into others ruts. But it would seem to me that the extra width would hinder in ridding through woods. Thanks for the info.
