the rattle or buzz is a missing heat shield securing bolt, about 1/2 way back the frt. header. Be careful not to put too long of a replacement in.

so what gives with the tippiness of the BF..i slung a leg over one yesterday and WOW..it seems very easy to roll..the body tips a little with even a slight input...it is the suspension that allows it to roll like that..and G-zus...is it a big machine...its absolutly friggin HUGE...but I do like it..but not enough to sell my 650..the extra power just doesnt appeal to me that much..the 650 is fast as I need..

well, i had a chance to ride on some old skid roads up in the mountains last week end. some places were very steep and some entries into creeks better than 60* (id did go straight in on those) I will say I felt like it was going to tip but it never did. a few times I had to really lay to the opposite side but still not one wheel left the ground. it feels really strange and you dont want to trust it at first but no problems for me, other than a cv boot coming off

Got my Brute back today. I was told the problem was caused by the compression release mechanism getting hung up and holding the exhaust valve open. They said there were some burs from the manufacturing process on the thing and that’s what made it stick. I guess my landing after the “jump” jarred the device “open” and it got hung up. Now it’s back to the break-in process where I'll try it rather gently, then after that I’ll wring it out pretty good that way I can uncover any potential problems before I make my next Hatfield McCoy trip in October!. I think I'll go ahead and buy the extended warranty as well!...

hey 2TV,
I was wondering about jumping these things with CV joints. Is there a danger of damaging the CV by jumping and landing very hard? I took a look at mine when I had the boot off and they look pretty weak but I dont know anything about CV joint too

Colmac, it’s too early to tell with the Brute since I’ve not had much seat time on it yet, but I’ve had my 2002 Grizzly since July of 2001 and it’s been through a lot of rough use, including airborne launches over erosion barrier ditches (that are cut favorably) while traveling pretty fast on trails and I have not had any problem so far with my CV joints. This one particular jump where I encountered the problem with the Brute (the stuck compression release issue) was not the same as the fast erosion ditch type jump. Rather it was more of a steep angle that led to a flat field so the approach was rather slow with a blip of the throttle as I was going over, so the horizontal and vertical distance traveled ended up being about the same. The resultant landing ends up being a little harsh but I’ve done that with my Vforce and Grizzly many times without any problems.

Also I’ve driven my Grizzly fast on very rocky open trails (the ride seems to get “smoother” the faster you go until you reach the limits of the suspension’s capabilities) and that must put a tremendous stress on the CV joints, but still no problem so far (luckily I didn’t have a 2003 model Grizzly which were notorious for breaking CV joints, they came from a different source that model year and were inferior to what the 2002, 2004 and beyond models had).

Hopefully the Brute’s CV joints are constructed equally as well or better. I’ll find out soon enough I reckon. Not only will it have to deal with the same treatment that I’ve put the Grizzly through, but the CV joints will have to deal with the Brute’s superior power output as well!...
