kodiac, there is an inner seal. When you take the collar out you will see it inside the collar, it's about the size of a nickel. I didn't bother doing that because it looked a little more involved than the outter and I wanted to get out and ride. If my seal starts leaking again or I get water into the diff then I will definitely be changing the inner.
