Wish I did. I have slack in my handlebars also. My slack is steering play, when you turn the handlebars. Is this the type you have?

No there is really no play in the steering, What I have is front and back side to side movement inside the steering stem collar. The collar has from looking at the kawasaki parts diagram, what looks like two joints and what I would call a collar/seals that look like they slide on? Ive had the same problem in the past on my 250R (Riding the rocks will do this to you!) The collar on the R was a 1 piece thick rubber bushing that kind of clamped over the stem, them just tighten the bolts on the collar and you where good to go! The Prairie setup looks to be 4 pieces? and almost looks like the steering stem need to be pulled out?? If anyone has a shop manual? Just to see what needs to be done? Maybe just the joints need to be replaced? Any experience or ideas let me know? I wanna fix myself and not take to the dealer. ~coop

I have had this on both my quads. My friend who has riden for 30 years says this is normal. The metal colar surrounds a plastic bushing that wears over time. The bushing is replacable.

My brothers quad has play at the bottom of the steering stem as well, not up top. Look underneath at the assembly and you can see the movement.

I guess I could live with the play?? Naaa-lol,, I wanna nip this in the bud before it turns into needing a new steering stem or who knows what?? Anytime you have play you can bet something is wearing something else down! When Riding rough terrain or any terrain at high speeds, I don't want to have anything go wrong or to worry about? I pretty much take all the plastic off after every ride making sure everything is tight, clean and lubed up. As Barney fife use to tell Andy, nip it in the bud!-LOL

IMO- The play in the collar needs attention, BUT play in the lower area of the steering stem? I would look into getting that fixed ASAP!! Trust me guys Ive flown over the front of my quad! bruised my ribs, Smacked my head on the ground!(Good thing I had a helmet on!) and was lucky it wasn't worse! After that You'll double and triple check and you'll make sure everything is working just about perfect! Also what could be a 50 dollar fix now could turn into a 500 dollar fix or who knows what down the road? ~coop

I have replaced my steering stem It is a pretty simple Job In and out in around an hour, If you are haveing Play at the bottom Check to make sure your tie rods are tight, I had play and my tie rods needed tightened where they go onto the steering stem, nOw have no Problems, have 300 hours on My P700 and still on the same Bushing, no play what so ever, If you go to tighten them Pull the cotter pins and the nut is 17mm ther tierod end might spin if it does put a 12 mm wrench between the tie rod end and the bottom of the steering stem HOPE THIS HELPS

My steering play isnt bad. But its there and annoying. My handlebars probably move around 1/4" being measured on the outside grips. This is movement I have before the tires move.
