Warn 2.5, Superwinch 3000, Or Ramsey
#13
I put the Ramsey 3000 on my P700 and really put it to the test recently. I love it! Very strong and not as much draw on the battery although you lose some line speed. But the way I look at it once you are stuck then your not in a hurry anymore.

SMALL WINCHES ARE WAY TOO DANGEROUS!!!!
I have a Superwinch 2000 lb, stock-mounted on an '03 Kawi 650KVF, with 50 feet of 5/32" cable on the drum. Superwinch is an OK brand, BUT it has barely adequate winching power and you MUST use at least two snatchblocks to get enough pull for an average mud bog extrication on a big quad. I must carry an extra 150 foot length of 3/16th cable and three stainless steel shackles, so that a two-block rigging will give me enough reach to get to a tree or something only 50 feet away. (Using a two ******-block purchase with three pulling strands gives you a 6000-lb max pull from a 2000 lb winch. Sometimes you need that much!). It is just plain dangerous to do this, but you hafta compromise, if you have a small, puny winch and get stuck in remote areas. Don't buy a small winch!
If I were buying another winch, I would never get one with less than a 5/16th inch cable and at least a 3000 lb pull rating (with free-wheel unreeling capability) and I would insist on having a remote-control winch controller, because if the winch cable ever breaks under load and you are sitting on the machine holding down the @#%*! handlebar-mounted winch controller (they should be outlawed), it will definitely ruin your day and quite possibly your face, if it doesn't kill you. It did kill my buddy, last year.
Winch cable is really quite elastic and can snap back at you with LETHAL EFFECT if it breaks. Look after it most carefully and replace it if it gets kinked or has any broken strands, especially if you use a multiple-strand purchase with ****** blocks. Always put a wet blanket or something over the center of the winching rig strands to dampen the recoil if it breaks under load.
Using a winch is by far the greatest hidden safety hazard we face in ATV use because there are a too many guys who do not understand the lethal danger inherent to winching operation by uninformed users or poorly maintained equipment.
Be informed, be equipped..... and BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.
