I reduced my P650's unsprung weight with 22" wheels
I pulled off my 22" wheels a few days ago b/c I broke one of the stud bolts off my HL wheel spacers on the front wheels while trying to torque down my lug nuts. Before I mounted my other set of tires (c-series rims with 25" bearclaws), I weighed them to see the difference. Recall that my rear 22" wheels are simply stock V-force rear wheels. Here's what I found:
22" rear wheel = 27 lbs each
25" rear wheel = 33 lbs each
Difference = 12 lbs for both rear wheels
22" front wheel = 17 lbs each
25" front wheel = ??? forgot to weigh it, but I'm pretty sure its at least 10 lbs heavier than my 22" front wheel
Estimated difference = 20 lbs for both front wheels
Total estimated difference for all 4 tires = 32 lbs (give or take a few). That's a huge difference in unsprung weight! I really like my 22" wheels...I'll be happy after I get my wheel spacer repaired. I guess I need to call HL and see what I need to do to replace the broken stud.

zquad,
Good question...truth is I won't know for sure until I do some timed runs at 300' with my 22" wheels (to measure acceleration) and also get a gps (to measure top-speed). About 3 months ago, I raced my riding buddy (he has a kfx 400) while I was riding my Prairie with the 25" wheels mounted and then we raced soon thereafter (on another day) using my 22" wheels...I seem to recall that I was able to accelerate a little faster off the line with my 22" tires up to a point and then he could reel me in fairly quickly at the end of the grassy field (which was 300' long give or take). Without doing timed runs, its difficult for me to say for sure, but my general impression is that the 25" tires are clearly better for longer straight-aways (perhaps 300' or more) whereas the 22" tires are best for shorter straight-aways (perhaps 200 feet or less).
This past summer I added v-force cams and the 22" wheels about the same time. I can tell you that my speedo (incorrectly) shows 74 mph with the 22" wheels at top-speed. However, my speedo is technically reading about 13.6% faster than actual speed b/c of the fact that the 22" wheels are about 13.6% smaller than the stock 25" wheels...so I was actually going about 65 mph (assuming my speedo is accurate). I have not yet measured my top-speed with the 25" tires since I installed the v-force cams, but I intend to do so in the next few weeks (in fact, I just mounted the 25" tires a few days ago). As soon as I test out top-speed with the 25" tires installed, I will post the top-speed differences between the two tire sizes. (in case you are curious, my top speed with 25" tires immediately BEFORE the installation of v-force cams was 66 mph on the same exact road that I ran the 22" tires...so I'm hoping I can now hit close to 70 mph with the v-force cams and 25" tires)
