Default 25" or 26" Bighorns??? Pro and Cons of a larger tire?

I'm about to guy the 27" inch Bighorns for my Prairie. Does anybody have any reservations about these things fitting?

They are tall for there size. I have 26" and there just over that. Most are under there written height. They are real heavy too. My 26" on type 5 weighed 36lbs front and 40lbs rear. That's 172lbs of unsprung weight. And considering your stock wheels only weigh about 85lbs, this is a large increase. So unless you do a lot of fire roads or rock climbing, I think there are better tires out there. IMOP

I ended up going with the 25" size on my Prairie. They are 1 to 1 1/2 inches taller then the stockers (depending on air pressure), and they are a very HEAVY tire to begin with (about same weight as a 26" Gator). Several guys I ride with urged me to stay with the 25 inch sized Bighorns, and they were right. They still provide more ground clearance over stock and as much as other "26 inch sized tires."

Their an awesome tire... but, I would only go with a 26 if you absolutely have too... and I would stay away from a 27" Bighorn unless you want to put around on a Monster Truck.

I agree, I have a set of 26" mudlites on type 5 wheels and the rob ALOT of power. I am keepeing them for the mud/snow and getting a set of 25" ATRs on the stock wheels for trails and performance. If you get a big tire I would make it strictly a mud and snow tire and keep another set for fast trails or drag racing your buddys.

The Prairie is actually my wife's quad. We do a lot of technical rock crawling rides, and the 27" tire would give her the ground clearance to get over stuff. I don't care about drag racing, etc. I've got the V-Force for that. So the weight of the tire is a non-issue. We ride in mountain and desert areas with a lot of rocks. We never see mud, but do ride in the snow occasionally. The Bighorn is perfect for this environment. The quad is camo, so I'll probably go with the black steel wheels. My stock wheels are trashed. They probably would have held up better had I put a decent tire on sooner.

Sounds like the Bighorn is the perfect tire for your wife's quad then. I would still not go higher then the 26 inch Bighorns, and their over 26 inches (26.4 I think) and every other 26 inch tire is usually less then 26 inches. I ended up going with the Black C-Series type 4 and the combo looks awesome. I'll get some photos up this weekend that will actually show you the difference in size...

QuadZ400, that combo looks awesome. But I still want the 27"ers if they'll fit without rubbing. You know, if a little is good, then more is better, right?

Check out photo #10 from my old screen name here. This is the stuff I'm trying to avoid. My Sportsman walked right over this obstacle, but the Prairie required the winch to drag its underbelly over the rocks and tree.
