Default Stock p650 03, shim question.

Iv been poking around for quite sometime. I think I have a simple question.

If you have a stock airbox/can should you shim with the #4s? What will that add? Im about 900'. Do you need to change other carb bits?

When people talk about klein jets, is that a factory thing or aftermarket or what?

Is there any use to mod the airbox if you dont get a new can? Or would a filter replacement provide better performance?

Im thinking airbox filter replace, napa hose, #4 shims, progressive front springs and, epi black rear white front.

Input valued!

Default Stock p650 03, shim question.

shimming the needles will eliminate the poping just off idle, it will also give you more throttle response just off idle. i used #4 washers, the thickness varies i took a micrometer and sanded two washers down to .02" and put them both under the needle to give me .04" (thats what most people shim them too) it was really easy to do the hardest part was having the patience to sand down the washers.

klein jets are factory jets

all the mods i have done to my airbox has deffinately improved the performance over stock (i had to go up one size in the main jets) adding an exhuast would greatly improve the performance.

Did you have to change pilots after the shimming?

So 142 145 is the stock config?

I bought the bag-0-shims today at Radio Shack.

For an all stock bike would you just shim to .02 or would you go to .04?

Thanks man, I appreciate the help.

Nightryder888,you state that you cut out the baffle. Is that the plastic divider between the entrance to the air box? That seems like a smart thing to do.If there are any other tricks with the airbox I would be glad to hear.

Default Stock p650 03, shim question.

stock jets are 142rear and 138front (im not exactly sure what size thefront was but it was around there) when i re-jetted i went up one size, moved the 142 to the front and replaced it with a 145.

i shimmed mine around.03" when i just had my twinair then i moved it up to .04", i had to do it 2-3 times before i got it right.

malahatmaguiver, cutting out the baffel will only work on the 2003 and up models of the air box. i did notice a difference in performance when i did it, with little negative effects the only one being is that the spot on the filter right in front of the snorkel gets dirtier quicker so i rotate the filter on the cage every couple of rides. i also spray white lithium grease on the entire inside of the box, even if you don't cut out the baffel i would highly recommend this it doubles the time between filter cleanings. if anybody wants pics PM me with your e-mail and ill send them to ya.
