Default midrange 4wd models

Sometime this summer, I would like to get a 4wd to go with my V-force. I like the 500 class due to their fuel economy and adequate power. Right now I am interested in the new 500 honda foreman and the 500 polaris sportsman. The price might push me toward the foreman. The Polaris seems to have more features, but if I'm gonna spend that much, I am too close to the Prairie and Brute. I haven't negotiated with any Polaris dealers yet, but I know I can get the Honda for $5799.00. I think the Polaris lists for $6799.00 I started out really stoked over the Suzuki KQ, but after reading about the reverse issue, I am pretty discouraged. You can get them locally for around $6800.00. I might still check out the 650 Brute, but I can not imagine having two V-twins with gas approaching $2.50/gallon. Maybe the 4wd models are not as bad as the twin-piped V. Just the sound of the pipes keeps your right thumb bottomed out a little too much Anyway, what do you guys think about the midrange 4wds?

The 500 Ho sportmans was nice but the lower price fairly close to me was $6200 for it. Here in town they all want MSRP. I ended buying a brute force 650 for just under $6100 yesterday. I wanted something that was a little more toward the sport atvs with the SRA instead of IRS. I thought the 650 had a nice throttle response to it as well. The Sportsmans down seem near responsive. I was orig. going to buy a SP but changed my might and for the price of a 500HO SP I couild get a 650 brute. Each to their own though. I could of gotten a 700 praire for another $600 but decided to save the $600. If you go Polaris, the cheapest price I have found in down in TN. One average they were like almost $1400 under MSRP.

Depends on how much gas milage you want. The 500 size machines arent very economical either. I have a 450 honda and a 450 yamaha, and there are times, i dont even get 12 mpg, and i think the best i ever got was 25 mpg. you need to get to the 350 cc range, before the gas milage is much better, than the big bores.

Bigcreek, there is only $200 difference between the Honda and SP500, but for that 200 you get a lot. The Honda is air cooled, drum rear brakes, solid axle, very little suspension travel, small racks, junk tires, no locker, and according the the May ATV Mag with there 500cc shootout one of the slowest. The SP500 is a true 500 with liquid cooled, disk brakes, IRS with lots of travel, large racks and storage, true 4x4, LED lights with reverse/work lights, reciever hitch, and according the the shootout it was the fastest and class winner. The Honda came in 4th just ahead of the AC 500. I've seen SP 500 sell for just around $6100. In fact theres a dealer in TN thats like $5700.

Thanks guys, I haven't ridden either yet. I'm surprised to hear that the 500 quads are so poor on fuel consumption. If that's the case, maybe I will add a few more models when I shop around. My V really gets my attention on fuel cost. I was hoping that the 500 quads would be considerably cheaper to operate. Are any of these good Tenn. Polaris prices in east Tenn? I live near Harrogate/Tazewell across the line in Ky.
