Lakota vs Warrior
#1
I have been looking for a good sport-utility quad recently and I have narrowed it down to these two. What are the ups and downs of both? I do mostly trail riding. Thanks in advance for any input.

I've got a '00 Lakota(last year w/ f&rr racks), It's small, quick(I jetted it, put on a supertrapp exhaust, & a K&N filter kit, woke that baby up!) & auto clutch 5 spd w/ rev.--I was in a shop recently & eyeballed a warrior, The frame looks bigger( the 350's probably pretty powerful) & Iwas told it's a real heavy bike, also it has no racks. I'd say if your on the Kawi page here, check out the' kota- Check out the yammie also, let us know what happens.........

well they are both on the heavy side but their are many things to do that will drop some of the weight
the engine setup on the 2 is the same..........2 valve SOHC but the warrior is a 348cc and the lakota is a 290cc and if you were to bore and stroke em for more power, the max cc's you will get outa a warrior is 450cc and the lakota would be 370cc but the 450cc stroker on the warrior arnt very reliable from what ive heard so the biggest i would go would be 400cc.........you could get cams, oversized valves and hi comp pistions for both and theirs a good selection of pipes and filters for both but as far as skid plates and nerfs more compainies make skids/nerfs for the warrior then the lakota
the top speed on em is fairly close with the warror at around 57 - 59 and the lakota 53- 55 but the lakota is geared low so if you up one tooth on the lakota they will be just about even but the warrior does have an edge on acelleration because of the 60 more cc's but the diffirence could be made up by piping and jetting the lakota but then again the warrrior would have an edge again if it were piped and jetted too, but a decent pipe really wakes the lakota up. because of the warriors 6 speed tranny it will probally be a bit easier to find a gear when trail riding/hill climbing but if you get a 13th sprocket for the lakota it really helps make finding a gear much easier but you will be more likely to stall a warrior a bit when mud bogging/hill climbing because of its manuel clutch and the lakota has a semi so that wont be a problem
both atv's are based on probally outdated but still OK chasis's from the late 80's but i think the lakota will do better on tighter trailes but the warrior will do slightly better on a track........they both have electric start and reverse which are both nice features but the warrior has no back up starter like a kick/pull start so if some part of your electrical sysyem fails you will be stranded unless you have a nice hill to pop start it..........they both have good reputations as far as reliability and either have no known major problems
Basically, if your gonna do more trail riding with steep rocky hills and mud go with the lakota but if your gonna do a little more track riding go with the warrior

Lol, warriors not a sport utility quad and I would def. take that over a lakota anyday. Also a warriors not heavy I dont see why everyone says that. 60lbs lighter then the lakota.
You must be talking abot a wolverine because a warrior is in a way diff. class then the lakota

alright...walker is looking for a sport/utility and thats just what the lakota is...you cant really compare these 2 quad...the lakota is a 300 auto clutch great for anything really and is just an all around great quad....the warrior is a full clutch, 350 and has a 6 speed tranny... great for the trails too but more set up for racing and sport riding...these quads are in 2 different groups...i personally think that walker is looking for a lakota cuz he sayz sport/utility and that what the lakota is to a T....the lakota is a very nice quad and its got plenty of power for a 300 in stock form...its a fun and reliable quad...if he is gonna mostly trail ride like he said... than thats the lakota's is what he shall get...but still to ask these question is stupid cuz all the lakota owners are gonna say get the lakota and the warrior owners are gonna say the warrior...so really id say go drive both of them and see which you like better and you feel you would like to have best...
