The Tecate has excellent power. They were faster than the TRX250R and LT250R stock. The trouble is they are extremely hard to find parts for. In fact i dont know of any aftermarket manufacturer that sells off-the-shelf parts such as a-arms and such, but i could be wrong. Motor parts shouldn't be too difficult to track down as it probably shares a lot of its components with the KX motors of that era. The other downfall of the Tecate is that they handle poorly. Ive never ridden one, but that is what I have heard from many owners including some guys on these forumns. They are good bikes though, and they are so rare that I would say buy it!
It would be a better racer than a warrior.

I have 2 Tecate 4's. I love them. I also have a 250R...love that too.
Many people think Tecate 4's are hard to find parts for. That isn't really true once you own one and get into the loop of where to get stuff.
Sure an R has more stuff readily advertised in mags and websites but you can find anything you want for a tecate 4...ANYTHING. You just need to know who to talk to.
I suggest you go the "kawie riders" dot com site and post your question in the Tecate forum. You'll soon be met by experts who can fill all your needs and lay all your doubts to rest.
BTW, the T4 doesn't handle POORLY. I actually feel for comfortable on it than the R when I'm on a track. I feel more comfortable when jumping especially and zipping on straights. It's got pluses and minuses like anything else.
Besides, most people who race do chassis work...especially on the axle and A-arms and Herrmann Racing in PA www.herrmannracing.com (I believe) makes great +2 (+1 fwd) sturdy A-arms that dramatically change the handling. ALSO, DuraBlue makes an extended +2 rear axle. VOILA! Besides, you've got a 5-6 HP advantage over the R bone stock and there's plenty more to be had. Just go to that kawie site and ask and you will get all the answers you want.
