Default Checkin my belt

Took the cover off yesterday, I'm at 96 hours, figured my belt would be out of spec cause it seems like the quad doesn't quite pull like she used to. When I first put my epi pink in she pulled nicely compared to stock and then slowly settled down after that, which I figured was natural. My way of checking would be to see how fast I can go and still be able to pull a wheely without pulling back on the handle bars. That speed has dropped a little lately, so I figured I should check the deflection. The belt looks and feels a bit too loose. I would like it to be as tight as possible w/o it being damaging. Now as far as these "shims" go, does my quad have them and is the clutch puller tool the only thing I need aside from the proper ratchet size and what not? Tried looking on Nyroc's website but it won't let me in, have to sign up or something like that. Also, has anyone tried the Maroon EPI spring, never noticed that one before, it's specs seem to be a little more aggressive than the EPI pink. As far as new belts go, are there any places to get them cheaper than the dealer?

Yeah, mine is actually fine really, but I thought since I have the cover off in all I would try to see if I could tighten it with or w/o shims. I just ordered a clutch puller from EPI. How much was the belt at the dealer? Does the Maroon really rev that high before it engages? I wouldn't mind having something a little more aggressive than the Pink and the load numbers in kg's seem only slightly higher with the Maroon.

Shims for Clutch
they make 5 shims, these part # come for an 2004 700p, which will work on the 650p. on the 2002& 03 parts diagram they only show 3 shims. with these shims you have an endless combo, and ive used all of these so i know they fit.

92026-0034 = 0.30 mm
92026-1569 = 0.60 mm
92026-1617 = 0.80 mm
92026-1565 = 1.00 mm
92026-1571 = 1.40 mm

Your Quad comes with either 1 big shim (1.40) or a combo of 2. Drop down to the next size if your deflection is out of Spec.

Thanks for the info! So if I have the one biggie I can take it out and if the deflection is still too much I will get a new belt.

You might not have a problem with the belt if it's in spec. I have a metal ruler with inches along one edge, mm along the other. Then I put a straight edge on the belt and push down between the two clutches about as hard as I can to get the deflection. If it's in spec, it won't help your speed to install other shims which would put it out of spec. The object of installing the black EPI spring in the secondary or driven clutch is to grip the belt tighter for longer belt wear....I don't believe you can get any more speed out of adjusting the secondary clutch. If it's not 'chirping' in gear stopped (too tight) or when you start moving (too loose), then it's probably in spec.

Before doing anything, you might want to make sure the belt is tight as its can be before checking deflection by riding at the outside of the secondary clutch by rotating the 27(?) mm nut ccw if I remember right.

(Be sure to keep your key in your pocket as long as the CVT cover is removed)

I used the ruler and it is well over an inch, I always thought the black spring was for when you got bigger wheels and or tires and the stiffer primary was for extending belt life and gripping the belt better. Got my clutch puller yesterday I was thinking of getting the black spring anyhu cause I need some new tires soon and want to go with mud-lites. I spose if I could actually mimic the exact foot lbs. of pressure required to check deflection it might be close to spec. Isn't it only 19ft lbs. or something around there? I have a feeling I am pushing down more than that. Kawiyowee, I am jealous that you can have all the Fat Tires you want and I cannot get it here in MN, I miss
that beer!
