Prairedog,
In a nutshell, the Moose (or any brand) module only affects bottom-end performance. The Dyna and VDI brand CDIs will affect the entire power band from bottom to top-speed. The modules are around $100 and the CDIs are aprox. $250 for the Dyna or approx. $300 for VDI.

If you are only a mudder or casual trail rider who rarely goes above 50 mph, then you will be fine with the Moose (or any brand) module. If you like to ride at fast speeds and/or race your quad, then you definitely want to speed the extra $150 or so to get the Dyna CDI (or the VDI whenever it is finally put on the market).

PS - All modules work the same...the advantage of the Moose is that its plug and play whereas other brands require you to cut and/or splice 3 wires. If anyone is interested, I have a used canadian brand module for sale for a total price of only $25 (including shipping to the lower 48 states).

Good luck and happy trails...

Yes, both the Dyna CDI and the upcoming VDI brand CDI are both plug and play.

Happy trails...

krazemudder....no offense, but the moose is a module which does nothing for the quad after about 7mph. Some people say the moose module is better than other modules, but as mikeyboy said, they all do the same thing.....change the timing from 0 to about 7 mph, then they have no effect. It must be the 'moose' name that attracts people, but all modules work the same, after ~ 7mph they have no effect on the machine. The modules will get quads out of the hole faster than stock, but no better than the after-market cdi's, and then the cdi's keep advanced timing all the way to the top end.

Regarding which cdi is better, Kawasaki intentionally retarded timing, thereby reducing the hp of our engines. Why? It was and is retarded and deceptive to Kawasaki owners, and is probably a lawyer's idea meant to keep Kawasaki out of court due to wheelie injuries. So, the best cdi is definitely not the stock cdi if you want the performance sitting there unused in your v-twin engine.

If VDI is to be believed, their cdi will kick the dynatek cdi, most noticeably in mid-range. I have a dyna cdi and am on the list to get a VDI cdi. If VDI works as advertised, I will have a dyna cdi for sale (for a lot less than $209).

That is with my 27" ITP mud lites. But, actually, I have only gone top speed a few times. I hate going that fast on my quad. All it takes is a little twitch and your a gonner. Like a coworker, he broke his back on his old raptor. I mostly trail ride, mud and use around farm and hunting. This last time I checked the top speed scared me too much to do it agan.
