New 4x4 owner...
#1
Hello...
I am new here, and I am also the new owner of a 93 Bayou 300 4x4. I got a great deal on the quad, I traded two guns and a playstation 2 for it! An older man had it and all he used it for was working on his farm. He bought it new and it has been garage kept it's whole life! Anyway, I have been riding sport quads for about 8 years, and have no experience with 4x4's. Any advice as to custom stuff or parts I should add?? I mostly trail ride (at high speeds) and climb hills, play in the mud, and ride through creeks. I gave the quad a good tune-up when I first got it. I changed the oil and filter, cleaned and re-oiled the air filter, replaced the spark plug, changed both front and rear diff oil, and replaced the battery. (it was dead) Is there anything else I should do??? Any advice or ideas as to mods or maintainance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
P.S. How can I post some Pics of my Quad???

Welcome to the forum DD15 Not familiar with your guad so can't give you any advice except to be in 4WD prior to getting into trouble. Good luck with your new toy.

Thanks. The Bayou 300 is full time 4x4. I should'nt have to worry too much about remembering to shift her into 4 wheel!!!...LOL!!
I have another question... well... it's actually the same one, just more specific. Is there anything on the quad that has grease fittings??? I haven't looked verry hard for anything yet. Also, is the Valvoline ATV Oil any good? that's what I am running in my quad right now.
Thanks!!!

Not being familiar, obviously, with your quad I can't give you an answer on the grease fitting question. About the oil, I would suspect the Valvoline, if it is rated for your quads needs, would be a good oil to use. This thing about oil, which is best and all that, has been beat to death on this and other forums. Everyone has an opinion but it kind of boils down to changing the oil frequently to really do a good job of protecting the engine. This is especilly true if you are in mud and water. My machines are subjected to a lot of dust and short runs which also dictates frequent changes. Using a pure synthetic and changing really often dosen't make sense to be because, unless you are running the heck out of the engine, you are not breaking the oil down. I would rather spend the money on a good grade of dyno oil and change more frequently. Just my opinion and I could be wrong. But I doubt it.
