Default clutch scraping

my buddies primary on his 03 650 is scraping on the plate mounted in behind it we tried just about everything i coud think of but the only solution we could come up with was to remove the plate but i know that it is there for a reason.Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what the fix would be.The only thing that can come up with is the bushing on the clutch may be worn or the taper on the shaft.Looking for some input.

thanks

I've seen this problem a few years ago and what we did was to shave (using a grinder, like 4" cutting wheel) some edge off the plate that comes in contact with the fixed sheave (inner). You don't have to remove the plate and can do it on the bike. Do NOT grind the sheave which is balanced at the factory.

Did this start after putting the clutch back on with an impact wrench? You can over-torque the clutch enough to push it in too far, thus hitting plate.

just started all of a sudden but not sure how long after we had the clutch off.I tried backing off the torque 10 pounds with the same effect. The calibration on the wrench seems ok cause i`m not having that problem with mine.

try removing the clutch and degreasing the shaft and bore. then install to 64 ft lbs instead of 69 ft lbs.

Your taper on the clutch is worn. This is from not torquing the bolt back up to spec with a torque wrench. Take it off and send it in for repair.
