Default 97 Prairie 400 4x4 backfires, sputters & stalls???

I have a 1997 Prairie 400 4x4. After riding for a while it will backfire then sputter and stall. After sitting for a a few minutes it will restart and ride again for a while, then do the same thing again. It seems that it has progressively gotten worse over time. At first it would start right back up immediately, but now it will not start up for about 20-30 minutes. Before it backfires, sputters & stalls it runs great. It starts easily & runs strong then just suddenly dies on me. Any suggestions???? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your assistance.

Just a thought, but I wonder if you have a piece of trash in your carb? Have you taken apart and cleaned the carbs? I just rebuilt the carbs on my 1999 Prairie 300 and it wasn't that bad of a job with the shop manual. I also installed an inline fuel filter in front of the carb since it didn't already have one.

Does anyone know were to find electrical parts for my 97 prairie 400 4x4??? I would like to price an ignition coil and cdi. I've checked around the internet at several places but haven't had any luck finding the parts. As usual, the local Kawasaki dealer is really expensive. Thanks...

Before throwing any expensive electricl parts at it, at least buy the service manual and do the troubleshooting guide.
This sounds like a block vent line. Next time it stalls, remove the gas cap, and see if that makes a difference. Or open the drain on the bottom of the carb and check to see if theres any gas in the float bowl.Theres also a vent line on the bottom of the carb, remove it and check to see if its blocked. Backfire, sputter and stall...are all symptoms of lean...like running out of gas.
