I have a 1990 Bayou 220. The "Shifter" you are talking about is actually a brake lever. The shorter lever under it is a parking brake. It will lock when pulled in for transportation or if on a hill.

My brother had a 87' or 88' Kawasaki in the early 90's his was a Kawsaki Bayou 300 2wd , it had a lever on the left side of the foot shifter ; i don't remember were it was located but it was for locking the rear differtcial so that both wheel's worked like possitive traction !

He kept it for 6 to 8 mouth's then he was facing buying a new fuel , because the original tank had rust and started licking ; and he didn't want to spend the money on a new one so he sold it to a guy that worked where he did and made 2 time's what he gave for it !

I told him i could've installed a Kreem tank liner in it before he sold it , but he just said he would for another on later ; and he knew he could use of mine when we went riding together and save money !.....
