I have the chance to buy a 2001 lakota sport 300 for $500.00 the thing is that it starts up fine but when u go to put it in reverse and netural the light comes on like it should but when in a gear it will not go 4th and 5 th gear u hear a chattering sound is this something to mess with and if so any ideas on what is wrong with it

 

I think you would have to tear into it to see exactly what is wrong with it. It would definately be a gamble, but I would decide based on the overall appearance of the rest of the quad. Maybe look on ebay for complete engine/transmissions as a worse case scenerio.
