Hey Guys,
I have a 2005 Kawasaki KFX 400 and am having some problems with the rear end. When its in neutral, I can roll it forward pretty easily and it seems to "catch" something, then gets fairly difficult. Then it will "pop" and free up again. Sometimes it free's up without popping. I have ruled out the sprockets, chain, chain/rotor guard and brake rotor. Axle bearing??? What do you guys think?

labguy jack the rear end off the ground and see if you there is any sloppy /play in the rear axle , if it's bad bearings there will be some play in the axles ; i had this problem on my 86' Honda TRX350 Foreman 4x4 once on the rear swingarm axle on the right rear axle !
I could feel the sloppy movement on the right rear without jacking it off the ground by grabbing the rear wheel , and shaking it sideways i could see that there was play in the axle bearing ; try to shake the wheel's side ways first with the wheels on the ground then jack it up off the ground and shake it you should see and feel the play if it's the axle bearings !
Good luck finding the problem and when you find out what the problem was post what you found , so others will know what it was ; these answers to problems help us all when we have a simular problem with our quads !
Someone will look in and give their advice on what they think it is , with the answers that they have found on their quads ; ask questions untill you get the answer then post what you found and the fix !.....

Good to hear you found the problem labguy , that was what i had to do on my 86' Honda TRX350 Foreman 4x4 ; onle one bearing was bad but i replaced both at the same time the right wheel with the rear brakes was the side that was bad on the Foreman !
So by all means do both sides are you will have to do the other side a month down the road , the axle bearings take a beating when you're having fun ; when you get your quad repaired be safe but have fun thats what the reason we pay so much for our Quads in the first place !.......
