Chunk out of belt
#1
Newbie to the Kawi ATV scene and just checking before I install a new belt and get going again.
Only 300 miles on bike and large chunk missing, tripped the light and was a slow ride home resetting it every 5 km's. Made a few small jumps with it last night maybe caused the problems myself?. Should I be worried about shimming the belt and just put a new one on and go?
Purchased the bike used about 3 months ago and the belt light was on when I got it. Cover had been removed (cover gasket was installed incorrectly). Replaced cover gasket, reset light and was great for 100 miles til now. Belt cover was always noisy and maybe the belt was too loose (checked it as per manual and seemed fine)??? Not every driving a Kawi before, not sure how much noise is normal.
I'm purchsing the puller today and is there any tricks, problems or issues I should be concerned about?
I the stock belt good, is there a better aftermarket? And suggestions?
I know this subject has been beating to death, but just want to check before I start.

OEM belts are best bet.
If that belt is missing a chunk, replace it asap with new.
Brute EBC is very noisey thats normal.
As far as shimming a new belt. You wont know for sure until you install new belt and check deflection. If its in spec, your good to go. If out then shims will fix it.

Update:
took the bike to a local dealer and appears it has an aftermarket clutch installed and not adjusted properly.
Booked for Thursday to be repaired and belt system serviced.
Told me about 3 hours to complete and guess that's worth it at $100.00 per belt.

DONE.
Replaced 4 rockers and shimmed the belt. Noise I thought was "normal" is 80% gone, much more power and response.
They assume someone was playing with it and did not re-install the clutch or belt properly.

Update again:
Drove it for about 20 miles and belt started slipping again. Back to the dealer for another adjustment & cleaning of the clutch and re-adjusted belt again.
Any suggestions about why this would happen again? No water in cover and belt not burning.
Dealer cannot give me any explination or maybe they just did not do it correctly in the first place?

My bro. has had some belt chunkin issues... not to sure why though... had his clutching all done at deal so one would like to think it was done properly... perhaps just not breakin it in easy enough.. Myself - i did the clutching and replaced my belts myself.. no chunking.. just burning them up good when doing some Deep hard mudding... i'ld rather burn my belts off helpin others get unstuck then leavin them swampt. ..

"3 hours to complete" - for a belt change and clutching... i think they took ya for an hour if not 2... its super easy to remove the housing, and primary, replace weights and springs... perhaps longer if the secondary was done.. but thats my opinion...
yeah man... i've had to near swamp mine to get others out and in the process of winching and gruntin the quad for more torque ive gone threw 2 belts... they paid for them though.. i've got no complaints about helpin others.

Clutch adjustment, new belt, cleaning, etc...... Apparently someone was at it before and phucked it all up. I'll give them the extra hour to fix someone elses screw up.
It was a Kawi dealer, so they must have flat rates to bill time.
