Default 99 Prairie 400 4x4

Hi! i have a 99 prairie 400 4x4 and i have a question about it.
First off the thing sat in the back of my barn for about 3 years with with only being turned on once or twice a year but never ridden. This past month some friends and i decided to go to one of their cabins, wich has a lot of atv trails. we were limited on quads so i decided i would pull mine out and take it.
After changing the spark plug, replacing the gas and putting carb cleaner in the tank i thought i was ready to go. i drove it around in my field and up the road and noticed it kept dieing on me. i replaced the air filter and battery and it seemed to be working fine.
When i got to the cabin we went out for our first ride, and no more then 5 minute own the road (it was a paved road, i was going about 40 mph) it all of a sudden lost all power, slowed down a died. i tried to restart it and it did the same thing over and over. I took it to the trails (dirt) anyways and it was doing fine, it never died and was running strong. i figured i just blew out some crap from the carb, but sure enough when we went back it did the same thing. it acts as if it is not getting gas, and the tranny just powers down and slows me down that way. (it is an automatic)
Any ideas on what it could be? it was very dissapointing and i had to ride passanger in a rino because it wouldnt work, however we are going back up this summer and i would like to have it more then ready by then.
Thanks!
Patrick

Check the fuel petcock mine still sends fuel even when in off position. I think the little screw that holds the plastic switch can get loose making you think its on when its not.

I would remove the fuel line from the carb and make sure you have a good clean fuel supply come out of the line.

Also did you dissasemble and properly clean the carb? That could help too.
