2003 praire backfiring all of a sudden
hey everyone im new i just wanna say hello.
I have a little problem. I have a 2003 praire. The other night i went out riding and it was running fine for the hour or so i was riding by myself. I went to go meet one of my friends on his quad. I was on my way put of the woods to his house and i made the turn and got back on the gas and it backfired. I though it was normal and continued and it was constantly backfired. I couldn't go anywhere near half throttle. Barely even a quarter. So i honestly had to idle home. So im lost at what it could be.
Some things i eliminated was the sparkplug. replaced it
I also put a bottle of gumout carb/fuel treatment in.
I came here to get some expert advise.
If anyone has an idea or suggestions, id surely appreciate it
Steve

Why are you doing all those when the belt light is flashing?
There are tons of threads about flashing belt light in this fourm - do some search.
In short, the flashing belt light means that CVT belt detection system detected a fault in the CVT area (worn out sheaves, loose/worn out/broken belt whatever that can cause the belt switch to trigger). Once that's triggered, the ecu goes into backfiring or limp home mode. Turning off the light is one thing, but you really need to find out why the belt light started flashing first place.

Just from looking at photos I would not be able to tell whether the belt slack/deflection is in spec or not. There are two ways to measure:
> Applying force (14 lbs) and measuring the deflection (perpendicular to the belt).
> Using the kawi's belt gauge which measures the belt width.
All described in the service manual which obviously you don't have as I assume. You really need one if you would work on the quad and get the job done RIGHT.
The belt should have some play (22 to 29 mm), can't be too tight or can't be too loose.
Is the toggle switch inside/top of the CVT cover at ON or OFF position?
