How are top speeds figured???
#1
How come every magazine comes up with a different top speed for the same quads.I have seen speeds rangeing from 68mph to 76 for the raptor,60 to 65 for the 400ex.51 for a lakota,52 for mojo and 300ex. my modded lakota will run 60 with stock gearing, and i believe faster going 1 tooth up in the front sprocket.i got these results off of a gps on my machine. Are alot of people bending the truth? Do the mags not give them enough room to run out,or some geared more towards acceleration? I just find it hard to believe there can be more than 2 mph difference between 10 new raptors. I can see how top speed of cars could differ because areo will be a big factor with wind, temp etc over 100 mph. What am i missing here?

It depends on how fat the rider is! Or maybe if that's what the writer owns himself? Who knows, Top speed is so overrated anyway. Where we ride I can't lose the one guy in our group who rides a recon and the guy who rides a 400 Scrambler 2x4 can't leave us. Sure acceleration differences can cause a gap, but in reality the top speed almost NEVER comes into play. I didn't know the top speed of my quad when I bought it and I didn't care.
