Thursday, I got pulled over by Sheriff!

Okay, here it goes.
I was on my way back home from these trails that are 1mile away from my house. My friend was still in the parking lot putting his dirt-bike on his truck. I crossed the railroads, and my 4 wheeler was bogging down (No gas) so i switched the valve to reserve. Than next thing i hear "Sirens" than i look up and i see a Black Dodge Charger with lights in the front.
The next thing i think is "****.. my dad is going to kill me" because he just texted me 3 minutes before to tell me to get home now.
I all of sudden put it in neutral, shut the engine off, and switched the ignition off.
He said "Where are you heading?"
I said "I'm heading home"
He said, "You know it's illegal to be driving on the wrong-side of the road? Even with a ATV?"
I said "Yeah I know"
Than he said, "You know you need to be insured and registered to drive it on the road."
I said "Yes, but i just got the four-wheeler Last weekend. The property i ride on is Private and i got permission from the owners. I didn't think i needed to be registered for that."
He said "You also were speeding over 30mph and avoiding traffic."
I said "I wasn't even sure, I was on 4th gear and it just made it smoother to ride. I just wanted to get home, i didn't want to make any trouble."
Than he said "Well, you have tons of violations.. (he listed them out...)"
i said "I'm so sorry, i just want to get home."
He said "Is your dad "cool" like does he know you can't drive on the road? And is he OK with this?"
I said "Absolutely, no! he just texted me to get home or i'm in big trouble.."
Than he said "So basically you've driven on this road all the time?"
I said "No, I just got the four-wheeler this is my first time.."
Than he said, "Oh, also look at your helmet it's not even DOT approved..."
Than i got really scared..
he than said "I'm not going to make this a big deal.. You won't get towed or any tickets or anything. Just as long you never drive on this road again and drive home slow than you should be okay."
Than I said "Alright sounds good too me. Thanks so much!"
Here's the list of violations he wrote on the "Ticket" but it wasn't a real ticket. He just wrote them down a ticket to show in reference not to do anymore.. This is the violations i have done...
1. Not Registered (Registration Violation) ,
2. Not insured
3. No license plate.
4. Failed to show No/ Inspection sticker.
5. Driving on the wrong lane (;?
6. Not D.O.T Approved Helmet
7.. Speeding in a 30mph zone. ( I was on 4th gear)
8. No ATV License under 16 years of age.
9. Accesseding speed limit over Railroad Tracks
10. Avoiding Traffic Misdemeanor
11. Driving Off-Road Vehicle on a Public Non Authorized Motor Trail.

Who was this Boss Hog? I believe in certain states violations goes against your driving lic also. Get insurance, register it and only cross the road and you'll be fine. If he catches you again it's not going to be a social chat.

You are really fortunate that he was that leniant. You wouldn't believe the number of complaints the police hear about illegal riding. If it were me, I'd get him a box of the best the donuts in your county next time you see him. (Just kidding. Not all police eat donuts. Just the ones I know.)

Wow that was a laundry list of violations. Take them pretty seriously, especially the DOT helmet. That's definitely your safety. And being stuck on a RR track wasn't good either. I'm glad he was just more letting you know the laws so you can be prepared. Definitely don't expect a social chat next time LOL. I think it was nice that you were respectful and he appreciated that you were heeding both your Dad and law enforcement's advice. Keep up the good attitude and ride safe.

Pop tarts.

Sounds like you handled it very well. I'm sure there are other riders here who wouldn't have been as respectful to an officer like you were. Those are the ones that get a real ticket.

Man, you lucked out.
You could have been a real deep s****t for what you did. Just like you I have trails only about a mile away from my ranch and I know and understand your situation. You were very polite and you handled it very well. Now get the things squared away becaue you may not get lucky next time.

Yeah. If you respect the officer. You get away with it. Specially with the helmet issue.. My helmet is coming in tomorrow and my goggle already came in! However, i gave my four wheeler a paint job. It's black now. Not green. Maybe he won't notice me [x.
Thanks Scooter and Hayashi. Just respect the officers. (;
Ride safe!
