02 prairie 400 project
#1
i have a 2002 prairie 400 4x4...completely stock except for an ITP 589 wheel and tire kit. I swamped it in a mud hole a few years back and when it got stuck the engine stalled. I eventually got it running again by draining the clutch, air box, and changing oil. I havent run it in a few years, and i sent it to a local for brakes. When he got it he didnt know what he was doing and caused further damage. The differential is shot so i ordered a used one on ebay and now another local is doing some work on it. Im afraid that tthere was more damage done when i swamped it that i just dont know about so what should i do to make sure everything is ok before i start putting power accessories on it. My plan is to get a new exhaust, clutch spring, air filter and jet kit to get some more power on those 589s. What modifications would you recommend? Any input is greatly appreciated

Honestly...I don't know that I would start putting performance mods on a quad that you sank and have no idea what damage you did. You are looking at a 10 yr old quad at this point and from what it sounds, you should sell the thing and buy something that has the power that you want!! You will end up spending the same money and still have a 10 yr old quad!

After I swamped it, I took the belt cover off and lots of water came out it..but after that it seemed to run ok...I guess all I can do is have this guy clean the carb and tighten the valves and see how it runs before i purchase the exhaust...i already ordered a twinair for it. Considering i've already invested 600 in the differential and brakes, im going to take my chances with it. When i took it to him the rear had no oil in it at all with some shavings floating around. My father doesn't want to part with the bike considering it was top of the line in 02 and we paid 7,000 for it off the floor..it's prety much worthless as is. This guy works at the kawi dealer in town and told me that if it were his he would try to fix it.
