high rpm while in gear with no movement, maybe slight rubber smell. Pull the cover and inspect the belt- it'll take all of 1hr.

No. A slipping belt will not cause an engine to stall- hence the "slipping belt"
If the belt was gripping the clutch hard enough to stall the engine, then the belt wouldn't be slipping- but you would have other clutching issues because a cvt clutch in proper mechanical order can't stall the engine-

You should read up on how cvt's work-

Default belt slipping???

ok thanks for the reply I know the belt is slipping. stall was the wrong word. this is 1999 prairie 400 when accelerating it goes to 22-24 mph and starts to act like its flooded if i return to about half or maybe even three quarter throttle the engine will act normally but it will not accelerate and i m pretty confident its not the carb I saw a thread from several years ago about this very same issue but the solution wasnt posted or at least i cant find it. any help is always appreciated

If belt light is on the belt being loose could have flipped the belt switch under cover an maybe in a limp mode..Just look at switch when you remove cover an see if switch in flipped in the off posotion..if is reset...good luck
