Default BF 650 Runs well when idling but poorly when accelerated

new to the forum and to ATV. Hopefully I am using this site correctly. I got a 2006 brute force 650 from a friend. He did not empty the fuel tank and let it sit for a year. I changed the spark plugs, emptied the tank and put fresh fuel in. Added sea foam to the fuel. It starts right away and idles fine, but when I hit the throttle it sputters and backfires. I have run a half tank of fuel through it and no change yet. I sprayed carb cleaner in the carbs while throttling up. Still no change. Tonight the exhaust pipe got to hot while keeping the grottos up and it melted the platic fender. I do not know what else to do or how to resolve the issue.

Can someone help explain what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Is the belt light on? if the belt light is on then the atv is in limp mode.Limp mode is made to get atv back home or the truck or loading place..when belt get worn or loose the belt will trigger an switch inside of belt housing an will have to be place belt an reset system.

Thanks Papa Hogg Scoot, the belt light is not on but you provided some valuable information I did not know about the Limp Mode. Looks like I may have to do a carb rebuild. Thanks for the response

My vote would be a good carb cleaning.

Also, make sure the tank is clean, best you can. Also wouldn't hurt to remove petcock and make sure it is clean. I had a Honda 70 once that kept plugging up the carb and I kept cleaning it, only to find out the tank had a bunch of gummy black tar like substance that kept getting in the carb. The bike had sat for a few years on the showroom floor and probably had fuel in it.
