Default Starter issues

Hello. I have a mule 610. My brother in law decided to float down a creek about a half mile. After getting it out and draining everything and drying it, I took the starter off to test it and found the starter solenoid would function properly. Ordered a new one and put on and now as soon as I hook up the battery the solenoid activated and won’t turn off even with key off, out of the ignition and key switch unplugged.

Any ideas?

thank you

Don't know the 610 model, but I assume it has the separate solenoid, like the quads, rather than the starter/solenoid combined unit like the diesel Mules and most cars. If so, your new solenoid must be jammed in the on position, this could be due to incorrect fitting of the terminal wires to it, or a faulty solenoid. It can be caused by low battery voltage, so the solenoid engages slowly, the contacts arc and stick together, but stuck is stuck, and if they don't come apart with the thin wires disconnected, which indicates you have fitted these wrongly, or a fault in the wiring, you need another new solenoid.
