97 kawasaki Lakota 300 low compression
#1
First of all, thank you for the site and the gained knowledge. This lakota currently has a no start issue. I checked the basics first. Fuel, yes, spark, yes. Compression, 60-70psi with fuel on and throttle open. Ok so I double check the timing and that is correct. I check to see if the rockers are not pushing on the valves at TDC. There not touching. I go ahead and set the gaps. So I ran leak down test to see where the Compression is escaping. None from carb. None from exhaust. Lots of air from oil filler plug and crank case vent. So I assume I need rings now. So then I pour in a teaspoon of oil in the plug hole and tested Compression again. Still only 60-70 psi. So at this point I almost think I have a hole in the piston the size of Texas. Has anyone out there ran into this? Thanks in advance.

Could be a blown head gasket, valves not opening due to worn cam, but probably is either a scored bore or worn out rings, only one way to find out. If compression is low, something is wrong, take the top end apart, inspect all components and, if badly worn, fit new.
