I have a 1993 mojave 250 and I can't get the radiator fan to run. I was running a switch so I can turn the fan on and off whenever I want but it won't work. The fan only works when given external power from a battery. I tried jumping the thermostat wires and still nothing. I used a multimeter and it gets voltage but when I check the power cable that connects to the ignition coil I get nothing. I checked when it was both running and off. I know the machine gets power because the front lights work. I checked all the wiring and it seems fine I even went through the trouble shooting steps in the manual and still no luck.
Don't know that model at all. Put the wiring diagram from the manual up on here. Though if you just want a switched set up, why not a wire from ignition switched positive to an on/off switch and onwards to the fan motor, by-passing the original set up.
Wow! never seen that before, the fan has its own dedicated stator coil and rectifier, may be worth checking the rest of the alternator is working properly, and that the fan motor is 12v as, from the diagram, they could have made it any voltage they wanted to. In fact, voltage will have varied with engine revs, but they would set max voltage at one the fan motor can cope with.
I tired by passing it and all that did was fry my ignition coil and I had to buy a new one. But when doing it I got spark when touching it to the fan but it wouldn't turn on. The only way I've been able to get it to turn on is with direct power from a battery
