My scram will do about 65-68..somewhere around there. None of my buddies have 650's , so can't say i would beat one or lose to it.

I think the scrabler had the sportsman's h.o. carb. and he drilled out the exhaust.

The scrambler had that 40mm carb stock before the Sportsman ever got it. I think it went into place around 1999 when they found no real advantage between the current 500 scrambler and the 400 2 stroke scrambler.

I get 64 mph, but can't seem to find a place to see if it goes faster. I have a little too much oil in the crankcase, may be slowing it down. I got a phone call while cleaning the filter and left a little too much red sticky crap in it, might be slowing me down a bit. Am I a slacker?

Has anyone tested their 650 to see if a hole in the top of their airbox would add power? Don't drill just yet, but maybe take the cover off and leave the filter on see if it has more umph? I can't do this for a while, I live in the city and can't ride or old farts will call the law enforcement.

Also, anyone notice how much louder grizzlies are? Yamaha must have had to put more of a performance muffler on to get the performance up. Since two cylinders are way better than one big one, I think Kawasaki had the luxury of using a quiet exhaust. I bet an aftermarket pipe kit would make a huge difference, I bet any mod would make a bigger difference than that same mod on another machine.

i wouldnt run w/o the airbox lid for very long, because it leans your air/fuel mixture out (more air than fuel). but i might try it on my 650 later today and post the results later.
