ok we've got all we can out of the motors on these things what about trans hop ups? i know its too much and to troublesome to convert to manual shift so is there anything you can do with these things i.e. clutch plates? or lighter springs? its the one thing on this quad that i just do not like its seems hard to get in gear sometimes and when your trying to really go though the gears fast it sometimes wont shift. i hope you all have this problem too if not you can say bye bye to my lakota cause im not putting another penny in this thing!!! let me know what you all think... thanks!!!

GMtech,
I had the same problem on my 2001 Lakota Sport. It was hard to shift out of second gear and tough in third. I adjusted the clutch as per the owners manual and now the shifting is very smooth. When I first bought the quad, I did not like the semi-auto clutch (I was used to the manual clutch on my last Honda TRX 250x). Now though, I like the semi-auto clutch and find it easier to shift up. The only downfall is the controlled downshifting of a manual clutch. The semi-auto clutch gets some taking used to, but after, I think it is easier and faster.

If you can't get the shifting to smooth out by clutch adjustment, change the clutch.
I'm like 300cr, I had the same problem, and a adjustment corrected it.
I personaly think heavier clutch springs with kevlar friction disc will help quite a bit, also probly some alloy plates as well.
I am in the midle of a clutch replacement on my sons dirt bike, and the stalk clutch is junk.
I only bought the bike in april, (01 XR-80) and the clutch is toast, removed it, and it's a joke.
So a good say barnett clutch with heavier springs would probably do the trick.
I also believe that the head on the lakota is horrible, after talking with 98lakota, he had told us the intake and exhaust were very rough.
I wouldn't sell so quick, the under power can be fixxed, we just need to find whats keeping the rev down, I believe it's the head and all the little bolt on we all have put on in the last few months.
I seen the EX-400 is still holding $5800 pretty strong, my investment has been 3600 for the bike and 300 for mods.
Can't see a worrier, or 300 Ex being any answer, I'd see about that clutch and a high comp piston, port-flow work, and a cam, possibly loose two teeth on the back sprocket, I would guess high twenties in horse power and low sixties in speed, also have less than 5000 in it.
If you get rid of her can I have your wheels (joking)
But what do you think about offset douglas rims.

kevlar friction disc........K-420(5)........$54.99
Drive plates.................KP-6-20(4)......$5.95ea
Springs.....................MT-58-4..........$12.95
Looks like for a hundred you could have a pretty good clutch

I checked with 98 before on this subject.
His was custom done prior to him owning the bike.
So far I have no clutch issues, when I do I will go with heavier springs and a kevlar clutch disc.
I like the auto clutch, first I've had, but a lot of advantages.
I would of never believed after about thirty years of riding with a clutch, but realy on the cross country stuff I like, The auto clutch works graet.
