Has anyone had belt or clutch problems on their 650? The belt on my wifes 650 wore out at 25 hours and was replaced under warranty. We were riding this weekend and a grinding noise started coming from the clutch area so we took it back to the dealer,as he was test riding it the belt hit the switch inside the cover and started running terrible. The mechanic sayed the belt deflection was out of spec and tripped the switch. The quad has a total of 44 hours on it and if this is going to happen on a regular basis its time for another machine. Has anyone else had any problems like this? Any help is appreciated

I,m not sure, but I would think that belt deflection out of spec could only be caused by installing th wrong belt or serious clutch defect
Be sure to let us know what you find.

To GOBOY Are you sure that you have 400 hrs on your horodater it is not rather 40 hrs, if you have so much hours done I will keep my 650 for a long time, if this is right what is your mileage?.....I alredy change a belt after 500 miles.

Had belt adjusted at 600 miles, 1200 now, no problem's remember if you ride it in high range all the time, or at low speed's it wear's the belt much quicker, or if you have monster tire's, expect to go thruogh belt's more often, heard from Kevin Staton who said a recall is likelt coming for the belt and clutch, but they are moving slow in that direction, save all your reciep's and repair bill's for a re-imbursement when the re-call comes.

I dont think it is normal for a drive belt to slip anytime unless it is wet. To adjust the belt tension correctly you must buy special tools [check the factory repair manual for part numbers] and shim kit. My wifes quad is still in the shop waiting for repairs but part of the fix has allready been completed. Kawasaki has released a factory update to stop the belt from triping the switch inside the clutch cover and will be performed at no cost to us. Kawasaki also extended my factory warranty for 3 more months.
