V-TWIN vs. MX4T
#1
I've been following the board for some time now and know that the choice for oil is one of these. What is everyone running in their front diff and motor. I was thinking of runnig v-twin in the diff and mx4t in the motor, but I can't seem to find v-twin, not even at the Harley shop. Which is best for what, and is the v-twin worth ordering?

They have v-twin and mx4t on the shelf at autozone. I don't know if there is an autozone near you. Yah, order it if you have to.
I use v-twin in the front diff, and mx4t in the engine (since v-twin was formulated for hotter running air cooled engines).
Watch what you put in that front diff. If you use something too viscous, it makes the visco lock diff very stiff. Thats good for traction but bad for steering. I had 20w50 dino oil in it once and it was too stiff. I like V-twin better in the front diff because the viscosity is more consistent between cold and hot weather. My diff stays at just the right stiffness all the time.

I have the stage one jet kit.
I change the oil and filter at the 1000 miles interval. I don't really have any solid scientific reasons for doing or not doing this.
I am just not convinced that I have to change the synthetic at 3 months even though I have only have only driven it 300 miles.

I agree I have read a study done on New york city Taxi's. They say they run 60k a year but with all the city driving it is equivalant to 120K. They had three test groups 1. cov oil changed every 3k
2. synthetic changed every 10K and 3. synthetic never changed for the year. All said and done at teh end of the year they tor them down and found that the group 3 had a lot less where than group 1 infact group 3 was still in factory spec!!!
In my autos I change the synthetic once a year and they are fine. I just don't want to give them a reason to turn down the warrenty for neglect even though synthetic is far SUPERIOR! I kind of hate throwing good oil away

Roc,
I use the mobil 1 red cap, old style,(15-50) it does NOT say "Super Syn" in my street bikes with a wet clutch (2 of them) & the prarie, I use it in the front end & engine...about 4.25 qt. this oil has the same specs as the mobil 1 v twin oil, about half the price, SJ/CF rated, it does not say "energy conserving" on the rear of the bottle...now for the kicker.....Mobil has changed the formulation of this oil, the new stuff has a diffrent additive package in it it is SL rated..so I guess I'll either scarf up the rest of the old stuff, or try valvoline in all the scoots..I do know that I've been running the old red cap mobil 1 in my street bike for 18K with no problems, & others have 95K on it...not bad for a bike..
