I just took my airfilter out to clean it and there was a small puddle of what I beleive was oil on the bottom. I cleaned it out and I don't think it is a problem, but I would just like to know where it came from. Anyone have any ideas. the only thing i can think of is the grease I used around the edges of the air filter element wasn't high temp and it liquified and puddled in the air box, but there wasn't really anything on the sides..???????????????

Mine did that once when I put just a little bit too much oil in it. It never did it again. A lot of people that put too much oil in theirs have had the same thing happen.

My only other guess is that somehow you got the quad tipped at the right angle with the rmps up high enough to foam the oil enough to flip some out.

I grease the edges of my filter, I don't think that the grease did it. Like you suspected, some crummy greases separate the lighter oils out when they sit, but you would have to have used a lot of grease too make a puddle inside the airbox.

Now that you mention it NYROC, about the quad being tipped. I did flip my quad last weekend. I was going down a steep small hill that had a vertical section on the left of it and i tried leaning as far back right as I could, but that wasn't enough and the bike flipped forward and slung me off. Nothing happened to the bike and when it was over that's probally when the oil got in there. Alls I can say is i flipped it pretty bad and nohting happened to the bike except it bent that rack...A quick tug on the rack with 2 people bent it back and now you can't even tell anything happened. I shouldn't have been so quick to flip the bike back over I should have took a pic. HEHE. Anyway thanks...and can u take a side view of those douglas rims you have so I can see what they look like on the P650. I'm either going to get those or the C series rims. Thanks

Lackdog, I shot some more pictures of the Douglas Wheels.

I hope it helps.

Douglas wheels advantages:
The spacing is about the same as stock (I wanted this).
The widths are better in order to keep the tire's rolling distances a little closer, fron to rear (6" front, 8" rear) if you have narrow front tires and wide rear tires.
The bead on 8" wide tires are a lot better protected from sticks (wider rims on narrow tires make it easier to get sticks poked in).
The stock lugnuts are easier to put on.

IPT C series advantages:
They look better, IMO, not that I hate the douglas wheels either.
If you want more spacing in front, you got it.
If you have fat tire all around, better for this. (7" wide fronts, 7" rears)

I don't know which is stronger, but the douglas wheels look extremely strong.

I balanced these using a bubble wheel balancer, to get rid of the handlebar shake.

You could also be getting oil buildup in your airbox if there is a problem with your piston rings in either or both cylinders, as air would pass through the rings, thereby pressurizing the crank. The result is that the extra pressure in the crank would force air and oil into the airbox. This often happens when breaking in rebuilt motors in which the rings haven't fully seated yet.

I am sure Lackdog appreciates the help, but he asked this over 16 months ago.

You could be right about the oil, generally speaking for any quad that is something to consider. Neither one of us has had bad rings in those past 16 months anyway.
