P650 EPI clutch springs--my opinion.

Hi Mastrblastr, MJSTX and NyRoc
Thank you and everyone for all the information you provided me with. When I purchase my machine in October, I will replace the stock tires/wheels and install the black KSS3 spring after 300 miles, when I adjust the belt deflection.
Also, after how may hours do you have to adjust the valves? Is it done when the first service is performed?
Can anyone give me some suggestions on tires and wheels? I would normally ride in hardpack dirt with little to moderate mud. I also would like a tire that will allow me to slide the machine, when I want too that is light in weigh Is there such a tire out there? As for the wheels, I like the wheels/tires that are on NyRoc's web site. Will these wheels and tires be good for me and how much are they?
Like always, I will be looking for some people to go riding with this fall. I plan on going out of state. If anyone will be interested, please let me know
Thanks again,
Peter

Nyroc. You are correct. It was 1Bearman I was trying to get hold of. Thanks.
Guys. I went riding this weekend on the nastiest trail I have ever been on. I was REALLY glad I put my stock drive spring back in as there was some very extreme hills that you had to crawl up with some huge rocks and trees on the trail. There would have been serious trauma if I would have had the red drive spring in there.
The 650 proved unstoppable on this trail. It was very slow going as speeds reached an amazing 4KMH and less. I'm telling you, it was hairy!! I had no problems with the black driven clutch spring and stock drive spring setup. Clutch engagement was perfectly smooth.
The only guy who had trouble on this trail was a guy with stock tires on his machine. All the rest of us who are running aftermarket skins had way less trouble. All in all, it was a great day.!!!!!!

IronBear: I had my valve clearance set 500m, the manual states to have it done yearly, more frequently if driven in extreme conditions (mud etc. ). You must be real anxius to get your machine, I am sure you find it love it!
Mastrblastr: Sounds like you had one hell of a nice weekend with your P650. Like you, I am very happy with my setup, smooth take off great torque for climbing and rock crawling. I am curius as to what air pressure you have in your MT's, I found 3lbs. front and 4lbs. back works good for me, we seem to do similar riding. On mine I fabricated a small skid plate to protect the oil filter from rocks and sticks; it's kind of triangular shape, made from 1/2" teflon sheet and it bolts to the frame using "U" bolts in the front and 1/4" bolts at the back (bolts on to the skid plate)...........MJSTX

1, the trail is to Marble lake off of the Bombi summit near Castlegar. We also rode in to another lake called Grady lake. That trail was pretty good too , but it was nothing compared to the Marble lake trail. That is quite possibly the nastiest trail on earth. Man, was it fun!!!!!! If you live around the Fruitvale area, send me a message and we can hookup and go for a ride.
MJ, I run around the same pressure as you are. I find the less air you run in these tires the better. The sidewalls are so stiff you can run them damn near flat. Sounds like a good idea about the skid plate. I was thinking about making one out of UHMW which is like teflon. The only concern I have about making one out of UHMW is that it won't take any abuse when it gets cold, it might crack. I made a roller fairlead assembly that sits way higher than a factory one. I cut off three inches of that mesh stuff on the front end of my 650 so that I could mount it higher. It looks pretty neat. There is nothing worse than getting stuck and having to root through the mud to find your winch hook.
Ironbear, welcome to the club! You're gonna love this thing!! Make sure your wife has lots of film around cause you're gonna have a permagrin for about a month!!! I haven't set my valves yet and I have 700kms on it now. Guess I should get on that. As for tires, if you are info fast trail riding, I would go with Nyroc's setup. TRX450 is running the same(or nearly the same) setup and they have had good results. If you are a mudpig and crawler, I can't brag up my Titan 589s enough. With the huge rimguards you can be sure you're not gonna get too many rim dings. In the mud they are phenomenal. I like them a lot. I like the new C-series rims. If I had some extra cash, I would buy a set.

Hi mastrblastr,
Thank you for the welcome Thanks again for yours and everyone elses input. Yes, I'm very anxious to get my machine and to go riding in the fall and meeting new people. I do like fast trail riding, but I'm the type of person who would like to cross an occasional mud pit every now and then.
About my future wife taking pictures, she will do that She plans on going riding with me. She has the 1997 Kawasaki Bayou in my signature. It's a nice little machine. In fact, we are looking for other couples to go riding with.
I like the wheels that are on TRX450's machine. Can you tell me where I can see a picture of the rimguards?
Thanks again!,
IronBear

ironbear--- Do you want a pic of the 589 M/T with the "rim saver" shoulder? Go to <www.4atvtires.com> they did have a good pic online. I have those tires on my Foreman, they SOON will be my P-650 SNOW TIRES! Great all 'round tire, a little heavy, though.
