Default Prarie 650 Break-In Procedure

I just bought a Prarie 650 on Saturday and love it. I have a big question about the break-in time for the machine and the first service. The owner's manual states that the first dealer service should be after 10 hours or 60 miles, whichever comes first. It also says that Kawasaki may not honor the warranty unless the published schedule is followed. However my dealer's policy, in writing, is for the first service to be performed after the 3rd tank of gas, which will be much higher than 10 hours. What should I do. I have a 48 month extended warranty and don't want something to not be covered down the road because I didn't have it serviced when the owner's manual said that it should......Help.

dan231v6,

When that thing says it's just over ten hours take it to your dealer and tell him you went through three tanks, it's Kawi's warranty not his, I would do what Kawi tells me first.

Grab some tires when you can.
Put a washer behind your pull cord (try it without, it will recoil esier)
Those wires hanging in the back by your gas tank, Zip tie them up out of the way of branches.

Ride on !!

Don't idle it much. Avoid going slow in high range.

Ride it like you normally would, but keep the throttle no more than half. The rings do their seating when you are giving it gas, so make sure you are giving it gas. Some engines need full thottle to break in, the 650 manual says 1/2 thottle max.

Or you can do what I did as soon as I got it off the truck I went and buried it in mud up to the fenders. That gave me a good reason to go and get new tires!

I ran mine easily for the 60 miles and then punched it once to race my cousin on his 02 650, but then went right back to being pretty easy on it, just don't go crazy for the 1st 60-100 miles

Well, I rode mine like I stole it. However, I did not run for an extended period at max throttle or max rpm's. I violated the manual's 1/2 throttle rule almost immediately. Oh well, I am still breakin-in and only time will tell if everything is ok.

I pegged my throttle a couple of times, it runs fine. I just tell people what the manual says.

I think the worst thing is to keep it at the highest speed, since the extra heat causes an increased chance of making varnish.
