New 2 ATVs Need help in a decision P650 or wait 4 2004 Honda with the Hydrostatic Trans
I am in the market to buy a Utility 4 Wheeler. At this time I am in a dilemma. I have a great price on the 2002 Prairie® 650 4x4 is Kawasaki's flagship sport utility ATV. The dealer wants 5,999 (1000 off suggested retail price) Your competition (Honda Rancher 360 4x4 “ES”) wants 5,300 for their pride and joy.
Could someone please sell me on the Kawasaki great price idea? I spoke with some people and they recommended going with Honda even though I lose the power. Not worried about finance options!!! Should I wait 4 the 2004 Honda FourTrax Rancher AT

The 650 is going to be a whole lot more fun.
Let me talk about an issue that tends to be misrepresented by honda dealers. Belt drives tend to run a lot nicer than any transmission that honda has ever produced in an SUV, they respond quickly and are always in the right gear. they are far better than the electronic auto shift, hydrostatic, and automotive automatic that honda has produced. Belt drives are awesome. However, they do require more maintenance. The maintenance is easy, and with proper adjustment and springage your 650 belt can last for a very, very long time. Long enough, if fact, that the maintenance of the belt is not a concern. I am now 100% satisfied with my belt drive, whereas I used to be somewhat dissatisfied with it before I learned how to care for it correctly.
Your dealer may not have the inside information avaiable on this forum for proper 650 belt care and may try to tell you that the honda transmissions are worth taking a look at. NOT SO. Also, the dealer may not be willing to do the maintenance on a 650 the right way, causing you to come back often. Keep your wits about you, and talk to people on this froum. The experience here is far greater and more valuable to help you make your decision than any dealer salesman.

I sold my P650. It was fun to ride, but not reliable. The engine is the best out there, but the electronics are water sensative & very expensive to replace. If you are not going to get it wet, by all means get the KAW! If you want the bike to last & be ready when you are, well you know the rest of the story!

yea, my neighbor has the same bike & he has had no problems. BUT, he rides normal like an average rider would. I am not claiming to be a bad @$$ or anything like that, but I ran my quad hard! I also know a guy with one that has had the same problem & he also locked up the front end. It was his fault, he reved the quad & put it in reverse before the revs came down & we heard a clank & that was all she wrote! I beleive if it was a Honda, that would not have hapened. I have always loved Kawasaki, but like a good ole Chevy, some things are not what they used to be!

I have never had a water problem with my bike at all and I have rolled mine over in the water the first week I had it. The only thing that wasnt totally submerged was my left hand. It ran like hell all the way home but after it dried out no problems what so ever. I have had water over the racks for a little bit and still never a problem. The Prarie is to much fun to ride to get a Honda. It will go anywhere and do anything as long as you got the guts to hold on and ride it.
