I agree, it's a horrible trick that Kawasaki has pulled on the competition!
Just kidding, as long as we all ride and have fun, who cares?
Oops who is pulling whos leg.
Well I have seriously though about the 700, NOT to replace the Raptor but to give my wife a automatic so she can go riding with me and be able to keep up. The Ol 350 BigBear although very dependable (86 and still cranks and runs link a new bike) is not cutting it.
I did see a 700 and thought the rear suspension was stiff when putting my body weight down on it but I did not sit on it or ride it or look at adjustability. I was focusing on R6's at the time.
I wonder if I could get a R6 vs 700 argument going. I bet for sure some will suggest the 700 would win that one too because the R6 is less than 700cc's
Anyway too many toys and we cannot have them all. Pick your purpose and match the machine is my moto.

Anyone who thinks an auto can't be made to go fast
anyone who has a 700,
adjustable clutch weights (Thunder Products)
taller tires
frequency generator.

The problem with the power to weight ratio is.
auto can be clutched to go to the RPM where it makes peak HP and stay there.
Standards have to be shifted at peak HP. Any time a standard is not at peak HP RPM, (between shifts) it's not making that 36.6 HP.
Anyone who doesn't think a Raptor is fast is foolish. Anyone who thinks a 700 can't be fast is also lacking judgement.

The only thing I can think of to respond to that is you must've gotten a lemon. 1/2 throttle will easily get the front-end straight up on mine, full throttle would result in a complete backflip if I was crazy enough not to let off. A full-throttle punch even from a moving 20MPH wil result in the fron-end standing straight up. Like I've said before, IMO Kawi should have never let if come from the factory with the front-end coing up that easily. That's the bad news.
The good news is that when pipes and clutch parts start coming out, people will quickly realize the potential of these machines. Stock pipe and clutching are horrible.
As for jumping, it jumps very good. At no time did I ever notice the weight on any jumps.

It is easy to launch the 700, if you get it down. I can nail it from a dead stop and I don't have a problem with it flipping back.

No Kev, I did not get a lemon. I can get the results you describe. If you know what you are doing you can minimize the front coming up by throwing your weight forward at the same time you floor it. I you read my first post, you would realize I have quite a bit of weight to throw around. The result is alot of wheel spin.

I wish to interject on this 700 versus 660 comparison. I rode a 700 before they were released last fall myself along with 4 other fellows in Toronto at a factory dealer show and ride session. Out there was a factory rider with a modded 700 and we could hardly keep up with him. In a 300ft drag he would constantly pull away to 4-5 bike lengths and the first 100 ft his front wheels did not touch the ground. Can the clutch be modified you bet it can, can the motor, you can also beleive it. With my 650 I can run with a piped and jetted 660 Raptor I can not gain on him nor can he outrun me and we have changed machines with the basic same results. My 650 is 200lbs more than his quad and this is running my modds to his and I am not using the juice or charger. If I were to use my total modds there is not another machine that I know of with the same motor configuration that will run with mine in a 300ft drag.
Here is some other facts that are interesting. The Raptor has a 5 valve head built for power and speed. The 700 has smaller valves per volume compared to the 660 plus the 700 has 2 cylinders with half the CC's. If the 700 had comparable valves with better intake with slightly higher compression ratio then look out Raptor. Lets put it this way, I would love to put my modds from my 650 to the 700 and see what it would on the dyno HHHHMMMMMMmmmmm.
