somebody just needs to race them stock-vs-stock. I know how much a jet kit, filter and pipe woke up my little 250 Mojave, I am sure it will do the same for a raptor. realistically i can't see either one "killing" the other, but stock they should be real close for obvious reasons.

king, you are right, the "potential is there", after all, ds and rappy three years, 700 three days, let's give it some time.
This motor has the "potential to be in the 900cc range, with rpm at 10,000 to 11,000." It is just a detuned motorcycle engine with an auto.

From the word go, the talk has been that the 700 was only going to be slightly faster than the Raptor, (2 tenths in 200 meters). I have not seen one credible publication or website saying that the 700 will "Smoke" anything by 20 bike lengths.
From what I have read on these forums, the 700 pulls extremely hard from the bottom to the midrange (I will find out soon enough), and we all know that the Raptor has legs from the midrange thru the top end. That being said, I can see the 700 beating the Raptor in 200 meters, and I can also see that the Raptor should be able to get past it in a longer race.
There is one more issue that is not being discussed. The fact is, that there isn't a KFX700 out there right now that has enough time to be thorughly broken in yet or has loosened up. The motors are going to be tight and won't be up to even there stock potential untill you get some real time on them. I read the Raptor guys say this time and time again.
On a personal note, you can look back at all of my earlier posts and see that I have never claimed that the 700 was going to "Woop" everything out there (Except for that one joke about seeing the back of it). What I have said over and over again is that this Quad was built and marketed as a GNCC Racer, (Not a Drag bike, Not an MX bike) and that Kawi is backing up their confidence in this Quad with their Dollars. From the early results so far, I would say that they are on their way to accomplishing that goal of being a contender to the GNCC crown.
King,
We discussed this on another Thread titled "Raptors are Slow" (Don't worry, I have been sticking up for you guys and Flaming the H*LL out of the Idiot that posted it. If you get a chance check it out, it's getting good.). The fact that all of the top Big Bore Quads all run about the same in the performance department is Not an accident. It's called Product Liability and in a lot of cases, Aftermarket Parts Sales. Simply put, the "BIG" Quad manufacturers don't want to get sued into non-existance. A 100mph Quad in the hands of a inexperianced rider is dangerous, plain and simple. You of all people know what the "Potential" of any of the Big Bore Sport Quads is and you would be in error to assume that the 700 V-Twin doesn't have the most "Potential of any 4 stroke quad motor out there. The only limitation that I can see to the 700's performance gains is in the trany and drivetrain components, but that is the case with Any Quad.

I agree, a manufacturer would be crazy to come out with something that is way faster than anything else out there. By being able to say "its similar to the Raptor" or "similar to the Cannondales" etc. you can easily cover your liability.

on a post back in the thread, someone hit the nail on the head. HP isnt the biggest factor in acceleration, torque is. Thats why the DS in the shoot out beat them all, it is a torque monster. Now the 700 should even have more torque!!!! a 700CC V-twin....just the sounds makes things twich down below LOL. The DS is the same as the V in the way that is comes big time choked up from the factory with their CDI. I have rode Scrams and such for ever and these FOOLS yes absolute FOOLS that think an auto cant be fast are in for a very serious rude awakening. obviously they have never been around snowmachines. Anyone throwed their leg over a new 800 or the 900 cc sledds???? can you say tear your head off power!!!! yes i know these are mega time 2 strokes but the the potential(there that word again) for what a auto tranny can do and do relaibly is proof right there. the disadvantage is not in the tranny at all, it is in the motor(if you could even say that) and in the swing arm. I am A OK with the shaft drive part, makes total sense to me, its the not being abe to extend the arm that has me bummed, but maybe someone will figure out a way and all will be well for the draggers. I easily see a 900 V-force on NOS in my future, if I can figure out the swing arm.

Most people also dont realise that these quads ARE regulated for top end speed by the government, None will ever be any faster than a DS or a Raptor from the factory on top end speed unless they change the laws....just an FYI

Is it really realistic to think that any manufacturer can make a production quad that could really "smoke" a raptor, DS, V-Force, etc? You have to have a lot more horsepower and/or a lot less weight to do this. Bigger engines with more HP add weight to the support structure, drivetrain, etc. I don't believe they will think using turbo or supercharging is economically viable for a production machine. Hooking up all this power to the ground also gets expensive. Using more exotic alloys to reduce weight again becomes too expensive. The idea that a machine with such a small track and wheelbase can be designed for 100MPH off-road stability sounds unrealistic as well.
I don't really care if one machine can edge the other a few MPH or not, what I want to know is how to figure out which is the most fun to ride before spending all that cash? That being said, I suppose I have never owned any machine that I didn't want to know what the top speed was, from a lawn mower to a ZX-11. I guess if I bought the new V-force, I would have to do the standard mods of intake and exhaust, get the new soon to be released cdi from you know who, yes the V700 is right behind the P650's, bolt on the stock 25" tires from the P650 which are collecting dust, and see what happends..........

On a side note, there is a solution to the swingarm issue being tested right now. It will replace the stock axle with a stubbed drive sprocket piece, bolts to the stock swingarm, and uses dual chains to a rear axle. This will allow multiple extensions as well as the ability to change the final drive ratios. Stay tuned...............

Haven't really looked at the setup on my 700, but lengthening a driveshaft on a car or truck is a simple matter. I can't see why an extended swingarm and a lengthening of the driveshaft can't be accomplished although its going to cost a few $$$. As I've said before, it should have never left the factory with the front-end coming up this easily.

When you're rolling along at 20+ mph and stab it and it still stands straight up, I think there may be a problem.
If you have to get off of the throttle when you're climbing a hill, you've had it when you get back on it.
