Default Best Tires for 650?

Well I have the 25" Claws and for rocks, roots and hardpack the traction is unbelieveable. They are not the the best pure mud tire but they ride smooth on the trails and they handle well for an agressive tire . I have found that the set I got took a good bit of weight to get them to balance and it is a good idea to set your toe in at 0 so they handle at speed. I got mine balanced and they still shook the handle bars bad at speeds over 35 or 40mph and would wonder. But after I set the toe in it made a big differance, it took almost all the shake out and made it handle even better, and as far as weight for these tires I know what some of the web sites say, but I don't think that they weight as much as they say. I ride in nothing but rocks, roots and thorns and the such and I've never had a flat yet, the stock tires I had a flat almost every time I went.

Speaking of ITP tires, I've got the mudlites in the 27" variety. All I can say is I love em. I ride on forest roads and power lines (lots and lots of mud and deep water). And on both hardpack and mud they are the smoothest tire I've seen yet. They are extremely light and look really aggressive but handle great. Check out my pics.pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 pic 4

I have the ITP 589's and regret getting them. Those are some good tires, but now I feel they aren't worth the effort. I thought I might need those big lugs, but now it's rare that I get into any real deep mud. The Mud-Lites would have fit me a lot better and the weight of the Mud-Lites wouldn't have slowed me down as much. They have all the traction I need 99.9% of the time. But I'm now riding on tires that slow me down 100% of the time, but I only need the extra mud capabilities about 0.1% of the time.

Well, I talked to High Lifter, and learned that all aftermarket wheels
are spaced 1" out. I made a deal for Titan 589MTs 27x9x12 and 27x11x12 on
a set of the High Lifter Lite platinum wheels. $600.00 mounted, delivered
to my door. Bring on the deep mud!

I like Douglas wheels better because they are not spaced out. they have the exact (almost) spacing as stock.

I don't like the steering response when the fronts are spaced about 1" each.

Those 589 M/T's are kicka$$ tires, indeed! Had'em on my 450 Foreman. It went everywhere. The tires are a little heavy, but that didn't mean at thing a that time. I was astounded at how well they hooked up on hardpack, too!!!!!

I agree the 589's are good tires, but they aren't really the best tire for my application. I should have got the Mud-Lites, if I would have known better. Tires are too expensive to be buying a style if it doesn't fit the type of riding you want to do.

I have ATR's on my 659 and Bear Claws on my wife's Kodiak *25 inch). The ATR's repaced Dirt Devils, a BIG improvement in handling. It doesnt slide as much now, it has more bite. However, I really like the Bear claws and they are about 30% cheaper than the ATR's. When the ATR's wear out (hopefully long time from now) I would repalce them with mudlites or bear claws.
