Warn 2500 Utility winch
#1
Hi all, Am I in trouble? I bought what I thought was a 2.5 warn off ebay and now I see what I really bought was a 2500 utility winch. It looks that the specs are the same but what gives. What is the difference? Will I have a mounting problem or a switch dilema. Please advise me as what to expect?
Thanks
Michael

i also bought mine from e-bay. probably the same guy. mine is a warn 2500 utility winch also. it mounts the same. the difference is that it does not come with the solenoid and the u-bolt for mounting the switch on the handlebar. the solenoid can be gotten separately but i am told you really dont need it. the u-bolt can be gotten at any hardware store. dont worry. my winch works awesome. paid for itself many times already. you can click on my pics in my sig for a look.

Michael,
I think that you bought a U2500 winch, vs an A2500 winch. I believe that the main/ only difference is that the utility winch has the switch mounted directly on the end of the winch housing. You will have to remove it and wire it in a remote location, ie. your fender, rack, handlebar, etc. I am not sure how big a pain in the butt that is, but do believe that is the only difference between the 2 winches. Hope this helps.

I did the same thing...bought the 2500 off of ebay. When I realized it was the utility 2500 I emailed the seller and let him know that I wasn't aware and if there was anyway to cancel I'd appreciate it. He did, without hesitation or complaint, very very nice guy.
I have since purchased the warn 3.0ci...very satisfied.

adirondack is right. the switch did come mounted on the winch but it is pretty easy to remote mount it to the racks like i did. i forgot you will also need the wiring harness from warn which i also purchased separately. i suppose you could probably make your own harness. i did however have my dealer install it for me since the quad was in for service anyway.

So why does the 2.5 come with a solenoid and the u2500 not have one? Any ideas anyone?

hey kawiprairie650,
i got your p/m. the sole purpose of the solenoid is so that the winch cannot be operated unless the key is turned to on. this will prohibit unauthorized playing around (ie: your kids playing with it, if you have kids). also there is a good chance of running your battery down if you were to operate it without the engine running.i like the idea of the solenoid for those two reasons. i dont know why warn doesnt sell all their winches with the solenoid. Thanks JWKawi, I really appreciate your response. I guess I'll just fashion my own wire harness to being the switch up to the front racks with some ubolts. Shouldn't be too hard. Thanks for everyones help.
