Default 40cc Eton viper jr

Hi this is my first but Im sure, not my last time to the sight. I bought my four year old a viper jr. It was running fine till I broke the pull start. Now it is fixed and I have no spark. I checked the safty tether and with the plug in I have a norm closed. I know this is correct. How do I check the Ignition coil, what should it ohm out at? How do I check the brake saftey. I took the cover off of the engine. It look like I need to take the hole top of the engine off to get the coil out.

If it was mine it wouldent be so bad, but the boy askes every day when I'm going to fix it.

Please help,
Thank You,
ACT 1

Welcome to the forums.
Use the ohm meter to check the brake switch.
Disconnect the stator wire and ground that while turning the motor over. See if it sparks.

Is this quad pull start only, or does it have electric start? The wiring for these two are quite different. I can help if it is the electric start version. The pull start version just doesn't have enough info in the wiring diagram for me to know how it works.

If you are just simply trying to verify the integrity of the ignition coil, then you could use a jumper wire to bypass all other circuit components and connect directly to the coil. Small engine basics: fuel, fire, and compression. Rid yourself of the electronics.

disconect your speed limiter. thats been the problem on a couple of them i have worked on. this is the same as any other atv wiring system except the coil is right on the flywheel and gets it power from it instead of being remote off the cdi. same as a chainsaw or weedwacker. its only $65 to replace the coil and pickup if you suspect those. thats the green thing you are refering to
